The Weekly Words
February 1, 2026
At Noble Elementary, we believe that every student has the right to learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. We also believe that every student has the power to make positive choices, learn from mistakes, and become stronger leaders in our school community. Noble Elementary empowers all students for college and career readiness through AVID’s schoolwide focus on WICOR, student success skills, and a growth mindset.
As we begin Black History Month at Noble, we are intentionally centering reflection, learning, and celebration of the contributions and resilience of Black Americans. This month invites us to thoughtfully uplift voices and stories across classrooms and shared spaces in ways that are authentic, affirming, and connected to our students’ lived experiences.

Tough Teachers
Team,
I hope this message finds you resting, reflecting, and preparing to come back on Monday to our students to get back to the business of literally changing lives. With only a few instructional weeks left until the OST, we will need to jump back into that urgent pace that is so important for our students.
The Wall Street Journal published a piece on how tough classrooms (and more importantly tough teachers) make way for long term success in students’ lives. I have attached the link to the article here: Tough Teachers, as well as a summary to the article below. I hope you find it reassuring that our methods, while not typical, do work. While our students might not show appreciation in the ways we want them to, all the time, know that the leadership team, our families, and CH-UH, as a whole, know that you are doing the necessary and just work of shifting mindsets and creating new habits for our students.
Please take a moment to reply with a brief reflection. All responses will be entered into this week’s Weekly Words raffle for a breakfast treat as a thank-you for your thoughtful engagement.
Mr. Walker, M.Ed.
Principal
From the Assistant Principal's Desk
Hi team,
This week at Noble, staff continued to reinforce strong expectations and positive behavior. We issued 4 referrals (174 total for the year), 1 lunchtime pink slip (143 total), and made 10 support calls. Students earned 265 Dojo Points for Kind, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behaviors, 38 points for 2x Tuesday (despite the snow day), and 306 points for being on time. Our year-to-date average daily attendance is 92.8%, with January attendance dipping across grade levels due to winter weather. Chronic absenteeism has increased to 22.2%, making continued outreach to students who have missed more than 8% of the year especially important as we head into February.
As we move forward, please continue to check the Daily Discipline Log each morning, send students to ALC with meaningful work, and contact families the same day a referral is submitted (logging the call in PLP). As we enter Q3, keep the cognitive heavy lifting with students by using strategies such as wait time, Everybody Writes, cold call, and protected independent practice. Please complete the Data Day feedback survey, review the updated Sensory Break schedule, and reflect on the setting-level behavior log for trends and reteaching opportunities. February Allstars will be celebrated on 2/11—slides are due by 2/6 at 1 p.m.—and reach out if you need student shirts delivered.

National School Counseling Week
This week, February 2–6, we join schools nationwide in celebrating National School Counseling Week! We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Ohlinger as part of our Noble team, supporting our students every day with care, guidance, and expertise. Please take a moment to recognize her hard work and dedication, our students, staff, and school community benefit greatly from her efforts. Thank you, Mrs. Ohlinger, for all that you do!
Missing School Pictures
Several students do not yet have a self-portrait in Infinite Campus. Having a student photo is critical for several reasons: it helps staff and substitutes quickly and accurately identify students, ensures student safety, and fosters a sense of connection within our school community.
To address this, please review your class rosters in Infinite Campus. Using the spreadsheet provided, open your grade-level tab and list the first and last names of any students who do not yet have a self-portrait. Once all names are collected, we will schedule a time to photograph these students and upload their photos to Infinite Campus.
