The Weekly: September 20

September 20, 2024
A Message from your Principal, Mrs. Katie Johnson
Throughout the school year, we administer various assessments to gain a deeper understanding of each student's learning style and needs. Benchmark data provides a snapshot of your child’s academic progress at specific points throughout the year. It helps us measure your child’s understanding of key concepts and skills. During our common plan time this week, our grade level teams, interventionists, support staff, and administration collectively reviewed initial benchmark data to identify grade level needs and areas where students may benefit from additional support or enrichment. We will be sharing your child's benchmark data with you as part of the mid-term report next Friday.
We use a Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to provide targeted assistance to all students. MTSS is based on the principle that every student can learn, but some may require more support or enrichment than others. Our goal is to identify students early and intervene promptly to ensure their academic success.
MTSS has three tiers:
- Tier 1: All students are taught with methods that research has shown to be effective academically, socially and behaviorally. Teachers use flexible grouping and differentiated instruction to address student strengths and areas of need.
- Tier 2: Some students receive more targeted support in small groups in or outside of the classroom. Intervention groups are scheduled in addition to core academic instruction (Tier 1).
- Tier 3: Students who require more intensive support continue Tier 1 activities, while also being provided supports that meet the individual needs of the student.
By analyzing this data, we can pinpoint areas where your child might benefit from extra support or enrichment. Sharing this benchmark data with you empowers us to have meaningful conversations about your child’s progress. Together, we can set goals, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements throughout the year.
Thank you for your partnership.
Sincerely,
Katie Johnson
Thank You
We are very grateful that so many of you are willing to volunteer your time in and out of our school. The turn out for our PTO Ice Cream Social and Bookfair was outstanding, and we appreciate the support!
Attention Kindergarten Families
Kindergarten parents this is a friendly reminder to please send in your child's required medical forms as soon as possible; the October 15th exclusion deadline is quickly approaching. Any child that is not in compliance with an up to date physical exam/immunization record dated 8/14/22 or later or with exemption forms will be excluded from school until they are compliant per state regulations.
Caught Reading - Still Accepting Pictures
We're creating a special display at IDE to showcase the love of reading in our community. Can you help us capture this magic? If you see your child reading, snap a picture and email it to Meghan Aleo. Include the child's first and last name in the email.
Together, let's show the importance of getting lost in a good book!
Send in pictures ASAP!
Lunchroom Volunteers
In the past, we’ve relied on lunchroom volunteers. However, with our current staffing and schedule, we’re able to effectively manage and maintain the lunchroom. Therefore, we no longer need volunteers in this area.
That said, you’re always welcome to accompany your child during their lunch. Please ensure you've completed and submitted the Volunteer Information Form - Agreement and Release this year.
