Wiggin Street Parent Update
January 31, 2025
Better Together
Dear families,
Mrs. Grandstaff has the school rooted in respect and the idea that we are all better together. In her absence, the staff and students have proven that this is a common belief that is held at Wiggin Street.
I am grateful to have been a consistent part of this school community for the last few weeks, and look forward to the time I get to continue spending here.
Best Wishes,
Hannah Taylor
Read-A-Thon
This upcoming week is full of activities to celebrate our Read-A-Thon! Students are looking forward to the events this week. It will be fun to celebrate our love of reading in all of these ways. Remember, you can fill out your at-home reading log to earn extra prizes.
Student's watched a video to prepare and have been spending this past week collecting their pledges.
A HUGE thank-you to the staff who has spent many hours putting together all of the details to make this happen. Another thanks to Friends of Wiggin PTO who generously donated to this weeks festivities. Click on the pictures to read about the prizes students can earn, and keep track of our special events for the week.
Global School Play Day
The Global Play Day is a day to celebrate the important role that play takes on in a child's education. February 5th we will celebrate this at Wiggin Street. Read more about how this movement started.
On Wednesday, classes will all celebrate by playing! Students may bring in non-electronic toys. Be sure that the toys are labeled with their name, and that your student understands that anything they bring is to be shared. If a toy is too special to share, it is best to leave it at home.
The Fresh Fruit and Veggie Program (FFVP)
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)
The FFVP Program has continued this week with students sampling pears and cauliflower. This flyer shares a little more information about how Mount Vernon Elementary schools have gotten involved in this program.
Duff Street Road Work
The village was awarded a grant/loan from Ohio Public Works Commission to replace the waterline on Duff Street between Wiggin and Acland.
It will require the street be closed to through traffic. Residents in that block will be allowed to come and go but the street will be closed during the work days.
Dirt Dawg Excavating plans to start work next week and will do 4-10 hour days, leaving Friday to be open.
What Came First...?
Ms. Waugh's class had a lively discussion following their lesson on the life cycle of a chicken- did the chicken or the egg come first? Students had some strong and well articulated thoughts and opinions.
