Winthrop Wednesday Weekly
September 23, 2026

Our school year is in full swing, and our students seem to be thriving! Recess continues to be everyone’s favorite “subject,” but I’ve also heard, “Math is fun!” and, “I wrote the best story!”
There’s a lot to look forward to this fall, with plenty of school and community events on the horizon. Keep an eye on the Weekly for updates, announcements, and opportunities to get involved!

A Friendly Reminder About Dogs at Winthrop School 🐾
We love our four-legged friends and know that many families enjoy having their dogs join them on their walk to school. We do, however, want to remind our community that dogs are not permitted on school grounds.
Some of our students are nervous or afraid around dogs, so we want to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe when arriving at and leaving school. If your dog joins you for the walk to school, please keep your pup at the far end of the front lawn, away from the main entrance and student gathering areas.
Please also remember that dogs are never permitted beyond the gates onto school grounds, including on weekends. This includes our playgrounds, fields, and other student spaces.
Keeping dogs out of these areas helps us ensure that our playground and recess spaces remain safe, healthy, and welcoming places for all of our students to play and learn.
Thank you for helping us make Winthrop School a place where every student feels comfortable and belongs! 💙
Schoolwide Expectations Matrix (REPEAT)
This year, we have introduced a new Schoolwide Expectations Matrix to all of our Winthrop Tigers! Our goal is to make expectations clear and consistent across all areas of our school—from the classroom to the cafeteria, playground, hallways, and beyond.
A copy of the matrix will be coming home in your child’s folder today. Please take a few minutes to read through it together as a family and talk about what these expectations look and sound like at school.
After reviewing the matrix, please sign the bottom portion with your child and return it to school.
Thank you for partnering with us to make Winthrop School a safe, respectful, and joyful place for everyone!

Lunch Groups (REPEAT)
This year at Winthrop School students may occasionally be invited to participate in Lunch Groups with our school counselors, Mrs. Roy (preK-2) and Ms. Lizotte (3-5). In the upper grades the students have the opportunity to sign up as well. Lunch groups provide an opportunity for students to:
Build friendships and social skills
Practice communication and teamwork
Discuss topics such as problem-solving, cooperation and emotional regulation in a supportive setting
Participation is voluntary, and students always have the choice to attend or not. Lunch groups are meant to be a fun, positive and inclusive experience during the school day.
If you would prefer that your child NOT participate in Lunch Groups this school year, please complete the attached google form opt out form . If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact either

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures (REPEAT)
A committee worked throughout the summer, carefully considering input from staff members, families, and community members, and developed proposed new procedures. We’re excited to put these changes into place and appreciate everyone’s flexibility and partnership as we work together to make arrival and dismissal safe, smooth, and successful for everyone.
Please take some time to review our new Arrival & Dismissal Procedures, as they go into place September 2nd!
Please note that arrival is the same as last year, from a caregiver perspective. You are still welcome to walk your child to the building- please just do not go past the gates.
Dismissal is a bit different in an effort to minimize pick-up traffic.
PRE-K DROP OFF & PICK-UP
Pre-K families park and walk their children to Door #3 at 9:00 a.m. This is the door just through the gate to the left of the building. Pre-K families are welcome to pass through the gate for drop-off and pick-up!
Pick-up is at 2:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays.
Pick-up is at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
