This week’s edition of the Byron Buzz Newsletter is a shortened version due to the long weekend. Just a reminder: there will be no school tomorrow, the 21st, as it is a Staff Development Day.

Our schools are currently in the midst of State testing, so we encourage parents to continue supporting their students by ensuring they get plenty of rest and come prepared to do their best each day. We hope everyone has a fantastic week and enjoys the extra day off!

Go Bears!

Thank You Coach Finney

Congratulations to Coach Kyle Finney on his retirement from coaching Byron Boys Basketball. Coach Finney has been a part of the Byron basketball program since 1998 and has coached since 1992. Coach Finney is looking forward to enjoying his other passion of traveling with his family. Thank you Coach Finney for your years of coaching and commitment to Byron Activities. There are countless hours that go into being a Head Coach and we want to especially thank his wife Robyn and their daughters Taylor and Rylee for allowing so many student-athletes to be impacted through his coaching.

Review & Respond: Byron’s Draft AI Guidelines

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a powerful tool in the world our students are growing up in—and Byron Public Schools is committed to helping them use it safely, responsibly, and creatively.

We’ve developed draft Generative AI Guidelines as a starting point for our schools. These guidelines aim to protect student privacy, promote academic integrity, and ensure AI is used to enhance—not replace—meaningful learning.

AI is already influencing the world around us—from job applications and healthcare to writing tools and search engines. These guidelines help us ensure that students are learning how to use these tools thoughtfully, ethically, and with teacher support.

👉 Share your feedback by April 23

We welcome input from staff, parents/guardians, Byron graduates, and community members connected to Byron. This is just the beginning. As AI becomes more embedded in our world, we’ll continue to build on these guidelines—always keeping student well-being at the center and making space for continued learning, conversation, and feedback.
