DCA Families,

We’ve officially started the second quarter at Destinations Career Academy! This is a great time to check in with your student and see how things are going.

Conversation starters:

  • Which class are you enjoying the most, and why?

  • Which class challenges you the most academically?

  • What personal and academic goals did you set for this semester? How do you feel about your progress? (All students should have submitted these goals in Xello!)

A few reminders about daily expectations:

  • Live Class Connects: Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • Attendance: Recorded through participation in live sessions and accessing course materials

  • Independent Work Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — students should complete assignments, readings, and other coursework

Teacher Support:
Teachers offer office hours throughout the week. Please encourage your student to check their schedule for specific times.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay engaged and successful this quarter! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Grade Scale Updates Grade Scale Updates

As we move into quarter 2, we encourage all families to take a moment to check in with their student about the specific grading requirements in each of their classes. Every course may have different expectations and assignment weights that can impact overall progress.

Please have your student review their course syllabi to help ensure they meet course expectations, as what you see in Canvas may not reflect the Competency-Based Grading system we use.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your students’ success.

She turns in her work on time, pays close attention in class, and isn’t afraid to ask questions or contribute to discussions. Peyton’s positive attitude and strong work ethic make her a wonderful role model for her classmates and a valued student in the business pathway.

Construction & Engineering: Jadiel Romero 🌟

I am nominating Jadiel Romero for Student of the Month because he believes that education is an important part of being successful.

Here is a writing sample that shows how seriously he takes his education:

"Some people think a high school diploma isn’t that important anymore, and sure, there are famous success stories of people who made it big without one. But for most of us, finishing high school is still a smart move. It helps you get better jobs, apply to college or trade school, and shows that you can stick with something until the end. Yeah, there are other ways to learn and grow, but getting that diploma usually gives you a stronger start in life. It’s not the only path to success, but it’s definitely one of the most dependable ones."

Jadiel consistently responds to communications and demonstrates a strong willingness to listen and stay on track with his work when in one-on-one settings. In addition to his success in school, he also has a job in sales. Keep up the great work, Jadiel; you are on the right path!

Her initiative, positive attitude, and natural leadership have earned her recognition not only in the classroom but also as an officer in the National Technical Honor Society.
