IMPORTANT REMINDER!
Just a final reminder that Monday, March 31, is the final day to submit your course selections in PowerSchool. If you intend to turn in any override forms (to waive yourself into a level other than the one you were recommended for), those are also due by Monday.
Please note that Counselors are not making override request changes until after the portal has closed to students. So, if you have turned in an override form, and you notice your course level has not yet been adjusted, no need to worry!
April is National Stress Awareness Month
What are Signs of Stress in High School Students?
If you’re a high school student feeling stressed, you may not even recognize the symptoms.
Signs of stress include:
- Feeling more agitated, anxious, short-tempered, or depressed
- Getting sick more often; Having more headaches, stomachaches, or other aches and pains
- Feeling more tired than usual; Not being able to sleep, or sleeping too much
- Skipping meals or overeating
- Neglecting chores or hobbies; Trouble concentrating and forgetfulness
Let’s be clear, a little bit of stress is a normal part of life, and sometimes even desirable.
Stress can act as a motivator, getting us to do things we might not otherwise. But too much unrelieved stress can lead to mental and physical health issues.
Here are few ideas of how high school students can learn how to deal with stress at school:
- Keeping a journal; Making time to do fun things
- Getting plenty of exercise
- Eating healthy, regular meals; Limiting excess caffeine in soft drinks or coffee
- Making sure you get enough sleep
- Meditating; downloading an app that provides relaxation exercises, and practicing mindfulness
- Reaching out to friends, family members or counselors who help you cope in a positive way

COLLEGE AND CAREER CORNER
What Mrs. Usher's Been Up To....
Mrs. Usher visited the campuses of SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton, St. Lawrence, and Clarkson. All of the colleges are very different, but offer exceptional opportunities! There are many scholarships available at Clarkson and St. Lawrence, and CT students are eligible for the SUNT tuition match for the SUNY campuses. SUNY Potsdam also offers a pet-friendly dorm for those who want to bring their animal companions. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Early Bird Admit Program - Montclair State
Designed to give high school juniors the opportunity to get a jump start on their college search and apply for admission before their senior year even begins, the Early Bird Program is non-binding and the first of its kind.
How does it work? Interested juniors may apply between April 15 - June 15, 2025, for admission to Montclair’s Fall 2026 class. Students who are admitted are guaranteed admission to the university for Fall 2026. Decisions will be released by July 15, 2025.
What about scholarships? Students who are eligible for a merit scholarship will be informed of their award as part of the Early Bird process.
Can students who are denied Junior Admission apply again for regular admission? Early Bird applicants who are not admissible over the summer will be deferred and reviewed again during the academic year. We'll encourage those students to have updated grades sent in the fall or winter of their senior year before we re-review their application. Students will not have to apply again.

International Admissions Panel
International Admissions Panel (Virtual)
Wednesday, April 2 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
More and more students are exploring universities outside the United States. There are many reasons for this: a sense of adventure, lower tuition costs, the ability to complete a bachelor’s degree in less time, and relative transparency in the admissions process. We are excited to have a panel of admissions professionals from several international universities who will join us to discuss differences in the application process, academic expectations, student life, and more. Recent Staples graduates who have pursued their undergraduate degree abroad will be on hand to discuss their experiences and at the end of the presentation there will be a Q&A session with panelists and students. Interested students can register here
