Strong to the Finish! Strong to the Finish!

BCHS Families,

At Boulder Creek High School, time is ticking — maybe a little too fast! The end of the 2025–26 school year is quickly approaching, and our Jaguars are continuing to push, lead, and finish strong. Our students continue to work hard, grow, and achieve at high levels, and that success is evident on the court, the field, the stage, in the classroom, and in competitions across the arts, athletics, and CTE programs. Jaguars are doing incredible things every single day.

Our students are also demonstrating outstanding growth and achievement across all grade levels in both ELA and Math on the NWEA MAP assessment. In addition, our freshmen and juniors showed tremendous effort and commitment during state testing, with record attendance levels and strong engagement throughout the assessment window. We are incredibly proud of our Jaguars and all they continue to accomplish. Congratulations, BC!

This week, we also celebrate with gratitude and Jaguar PRIDE as we recognize our outstanding teachers and staff. Whether in the classroom, cafeteria, front office, counseling office, nurse's office, or throughout campus, BCHS staff members make a meaningful difference in the lives of students every day. I continue to be inspired by the dedication, compassion, and commitment I witness across our campus as our staff support, challenge, and grow kids. BCHS is the extraordinary place it is because of each of you. Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!

Lastly, it is my honor to introduce the next principal of Boulder Creek High School, Mr. Jeremy Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix was officially approved by the Governing Board at the April meeting to serve as the 2026–27 BCHS principal. He currently serves as the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Mountain Ridge High School and has been part of DVUSD for the past six years, bringing more than 20 years of educational and administrative experience to Boulder Creek. On Friday, May 1st, Mr. Hendrix had a meet and greet with the staff as he transitions from being a Mountain Lion to a Jaguar!

As I transition next year into the role of DVUSD Director of Communications and Community Engagement, I am incredibly grateful and excited to know BCHS will continue its tradition of excellence, leadership, and Jaguar PRIDE under Mr. Hendrix’s leadership. Congratulations and welcome to the Jaguar family, Mr. Hendrix!

With PRIDE,

Mrs. Brittany Sutton

Seniors' Last Day at BC!

On May 8th, our Senior Class of 2026 had their last day at BC after taking their finals. The seniors pranked the office staff by doing a final tour through the office starting through Mrs. Sutton's back door. They played music, laughed, and then headed out to the practice field where our Parent Association celebrated them with doughnuts. Seniors had time to gather and celebrate their final official moments at BC!

We will see our seniors back on May 12th for senior checkout from 8-11 at the front office! Don't forget!

Senior Sunset

On May 6th, the senior class of Boulder Creek High School gathered together to celebrate the “sunset” of their high school journey. The evening was filled with laughter, reflection, and meaningful moments as students spent time together sharing memories from their years at BCHS while looking ahead to the exciting opportunities and aspirations that await them after graduation.

As the sun set, seniors were reminded of the friendships, experiences, accomplishments, and Jaguar PRIDE that have shaped their high school experience. From classrooms and campuses to athletics, fine arts, activities, and service, the Class of 2026 has left a lasting impact on Boulder Creek. The event provided a special opportunity for students to slow down, appreciate the journey, and celebrate the strong connections and memories they have built together over the past four years.

We are incredibly proud of our seniors and look forward to celebrating all they will accomplish in the future. Once a Jaguar, always a Jaguar!

Dinner of Excellence

On May 6th, we honored our students and their families earning the Certificate of Academic Distinction and the Certificate of STEM Distinction during our annual Dinner of Excellence at El Encanto Dos. It was a lovely evening where students shared information about their projects and their journeys through their learning.

Boulder Creek High School offers students the opportunity to earn a Certificate of Academic Distinction (CAD), recognizing exceptional academic achievement, rigorous coursework, and advanced learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. Students pursuing a CAD demonstrate high levels of dedication through honors or AP classes, capstone projects, research, and presentations that showcase their knowledge and skills. Students may also earn specialized distinctions, such as CAD in STEM, which highlights excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These students complete advanced STEM coursework while participating in research projects, engineering challenges, science fairs, STEM clubs, or other innovation-based experiences that prepare them for future college and career opportunities in high-demand fields.

These students have met the requirements for these distinctions and have pursued the highest level of achievement that BCHS offers:

Certificate of Academic Distinction

  • Taylor Bonar
  • Elia Garcia
  • Kinsey Waller

Certificate of STEM Distinction

  • Han-Chien (Kelly) Chang
  • Caydon Cowell
  • Ethan Grover
  • Benjamin Johnson
  • Bryant Lee
  • Lucas Louden
  • Kayla Smith
  • Kaden Tang

Mr. BC 2026 Raises Money for the Crone's and Colitis Foundation & Entertains! Mr. BC 2026 Raises Money for the Crone's and Colitis Foundation & Entertains!

The Boulder Creek community recently gathered for one of the most anticipated and entertaining events of the year: the annual Mr. BC competition. The event was described as an "amazing" and "fantastic show" that took place on a Friday night in April. Beyond the talent and humor on display, the event served a significant charitable purpose, with the contestants raising money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

The competition featured a diverse group of talented students who dedicated their time to making the event a success. We are proud to recognize all of the 2026 contestants:

  • Eric Boateng
  • Justin Choi
  • Jason D’Onofrio
  • Cruz Kaikala
  • Vasilus Kouvelas
  • Max MacFarland
  • Connor Park
  • Cameron Toomey

While every participant contributed to an unforgettable evening, two students dominated the recognition during the awards ceremony. Justin Choi and Jason D’Onofrio reportedly "swept the awards" for their performances. The ultimate honor of the night went to Jason D’Onofrio, who was officially named Mr. BC 2026.

The success of this large-scale production was made possible by the hard work of the Student Government. A special thank you is extended to the student leaders and their sponsor, Ms. Larance, for organizing an event that successfully balanced entertainment with community service. Congratulations to all the participants for showing their Jaguar PRIDE!

Celebrating the Class of 2026 at our Spring Assembly Celebrating the Class of 2026 at our Spring Assembly

Boulder Creek High School wrapped up the school year with our final assembly — a spirited celebration honoring the Class of 2026 and showcasing incredible Jaguar PRIDE! The Senior Assembly provided an opportunity for students and staff to reflect on accomplishments, celebrate memories, and cheer on our graduating seniors as they prepare for the next chapter of their journey.

The assembly featured outstanding performances from Choir, Band, Dance, Pom, and Cheer, along with exciting games and spirited class competitions that kept the energy high throughout the event. In an impressive display of enthusiasm and school spirit, the freshman class earned more than 3,000 points to capture the coveted Spirit Stick (even though the Class of 2026 tried to steal it), proving that even our youngest Jaguars know how to bring the energy and BC Spirit!

One of the most meaningful moments of the assembly came when Student Government recognized Mrs. Sutton with flowers and appreciation as she prepares to transition into her new role in DVUSD. The celebration highlighted the strong sense of community, connection, and tradition that makes BCHS such a special place.

A special thank you goes to our Student Government students, their advisor Mrs. Larance, all of our performers, and everyone who helped organize and participate in such a memorable event. The school spirit, positivity, and togetherness on display made for a truly outstanding send-off to close the year.

In Loving Memory of a Dearly Missed Jaguar In Loving Memory of a Dearly Missed Jaguar

On May 7th, a tree was planted between the 300 and 500 buildings in memory of Mrs. Jacquelyn Parmeley who passed away in the fall of 2024 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Parmeley was an amazing BC math teacher, former administrator in Glendale Union, and math department coordinator. She was beloved by her students and was committed to supporting their learning and growth in math and life. Her classroom, which was in the 400 building, once had a huge palo verde tree outside of it. She loved to look out the window and watch the tree move in the wind. The tree fell due to a large windstorm a few years ago, so her wish was to to have a new tree planted so the new teacher in her classroom could take a breath during the day and watch the tree move in the wind. A Chinese Elm was selected and planted for Mrs. Parmeley in the presence of her husband, her children, and her colleagues that love and miss her deeply.

We will continue to remember you, Jackie, as we watch this tree grow just as we watched your students grow under your careful watch.

April Focus- Growth Mindset: What I used to say vs. what I say now

Each Monday we share the PRIDE Point of the Week with our Jaguars focusing on our values and a monthly focus. Here are the PRIDE points of the week that were shared in April & May:

  • Prepared: Being prepared to grow means expecting challenges and welcoming them. A growth mindset starts with knowing that failure isn’t the end—it’s a signal to adjust and try again. Come to class ready not to be perfect, but to improve.
  • Respect: Respect your own learning journey by avoiding comparisons with others. Growth looks different for everyone, and the best thing you can do is celebrate effort—yours and others'. We're all learning, just at different speeds.
  • Integrity: Having integrity means admitting when you don’t know something—and being willing to learn. It’s easy to pretend you have it all figured out. But growth starts when you’re honest enough to say, “I need help.”
  • Disciplined: Growth takes discipline. It’s not about making one big change—it’s about showing up day after day, doing the small things that lead to big results. Progress happens one decision at a time.
  • Everyone United: A growth mindset lifts up everyone, not just individuals. When we encourage one another, provide helpful feedback, and celebrate improvement, we create a culture where it’s safe to take risks and grow together.

May Focus- Legacy: What will they say about your walk?

  • Prepared: Preparing your legacy means thinking about how your actions today will be remembered tomorrow. Every choice, big or small, adds up to the story you leave behind. What kind of person do you want to be known as?
  • Respect: Respecting others means honoring the legacy they’ve built and the paths they’ve paved. When we appreciate those who came before us, we’re inspired to leave a positive mark for those who follow.
  • Integrity: Your legacy is built on integrity—the consistency between your words and your actions. When you do what’s right, even when no one’s watching, you create trust that lasts far beyond your time here.
  • Disciplined: Discipline is what helps you leave a strong legacy. It’s the daily commitment to live by your values and work toward your goals. Legacy isn’t just about what you say; it’s about what you consistently do.
  • Everyone United: We all contribute to the legacy of our school community. When we support each other and work together, we build something bigger than ourselves—a legacy of unity, pride, and success for future Jaguars.

Harmony and Honors: A Season of Musical Excellence for the Jaguar Pride Band Harmony and Honors: A Season of Musical Excellence for the Jaguar Pride Band

The 2025-2026 season has been a landmark year for the Boulder Creek High School band program. Under the leadership of Director Mrs. Broderick, our student-musicians have achieved unprecedented success in state competitions, prestigious festivals, and original compositions.

State-Level Competition Success

The Jaguar Pride Band demonstrated their technical mastery at recent state festivals. The Jazz Band competed at the state jazz festival, earning an "Excellent" rating. Our large ensembles also shone at the state concert band festival: the Symphonic Band earned a "Superior" rating, while the Wind Ensemble achieved the highest possible honor, "Superior with Distinction".

Our students also made history at the statewide Solo/Ensemble Festival. In January, 11 acts involving over 40 students earned "Excellent" and "Superior" ratings during the Tier 1 round. Moving into Tier 2, a BCHS Clarinet act earned the "Best in Class" Award, marking the first time a Boulder Creek group has ever received this prestigious honor.

Individual Virtuosity and All-State Honors

Individual Jaguars have also been recognized on the state and professional stage:

  • Student Composer Success: Senior Logan Phares was one of only five students selected in the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra's Student Composer contest. His original symphony was performed on March 25th by the Phoenix Symphony and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in a special Side by Side Concert.
  • All-State Festival: Three Jaguar Pride Band members were selected to participate in the Arizona All State Band Festival, performing under the direction of internationally renowned composer Brian Balmages. Congratulations to Hannah Chapman (French Horn), Jack Beverley (French Horn), and Skylynn Chapman (Flute).

Memorable Performances and Senior Farewells

The band recently concluded a busy week of performances, showcasing 13 small ensembles and several large ensembles over two nights of incredible music. The season reached an emotional peak during the senior assembly, where our graduating musicians played the school fight song for the final time. Our seniors were honored with leis and roses to celebrate the lasting legacy they leave behind.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and growth shown by all our musicians this year. Their hard work has truly made this a season to remember. Brava to everyone involved!

A Symphony of Success: Celebrating the Boulder Creek Choir Program A Symphony of Success: Celebrating the Boulder Creek Choir Program

It has been a season of incredible harmony and high-level achievement for the Boulder Creek High School choir program. From local competitions to prestigious state-level honors, our vocalists have showcased their talent and dedication to musical excellence. This week, Choir put on an AMAZING spring Pops Concert: From the Archives of Our Childhood. (There is one more performance tonight, May 8th at 7pm, if you can catch a ticket!) The show is spectacular with incredible singing, dancing, lights, and sound. It is beautiful to watch as it takes you away to your childhood through music inspired by Disney. In addition to putting on amazing show, our choirs have had an epic spring!

All-State Honor Choir Achievements

Our choir students recently represented Boulder Creek at the All-State Honor Choir, competing among the best vocalists in Arizona. We are especially proud to recognize two students for a rare and extraordinary achievement: Rosie Andersen and Chase Carlisle were honored for being four-year members of the All-State Honor Choir. This distinction highlights their consistent excellence and commitment throughout their entire high school careers.

Monsoon Madness and On-Campus Performances

The program also saw major competitive success during "Monsoon Madness," where the choir ensemble Heart and Soul took FIRST place. This victory followed a series of powerful on-campus performances where the "Jags" showcased their Nashville set to two nights of very full houses.

Solo and Ensemble Excellence

Our vocalists also contributed to a record-breaking year for BCHS at the statewide Solo/Ensemble Festival. While the festival included various musical disciplines, Boulder Creek saw 11 acts and over 40 students participate in the first round, with every ensemble earning "Excellent" or "Superior" ratings.

Directorial Leadership

These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of the students and the exceptional leadership of their director, Mr. Douglas. His guidance continues to foster a culture of creativity and collaboration within the performing arts department.

Congratulations to all our choir students for another "amazing" and "phenomenal" season!

ELA 7-8 students experienced a amazing learning opportunity in April. After finishing The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, our senior students had the opportunity to connect literature to lived experience through conversations with military service members. Speakers shared the physical items they carried, the emotional and mental challenges of service, the memories that stay with them, and the lessons they continue to carry long during and after service. This was an impactful experience that helped bring themes of burden, sacrifice, resilience, and perspective beyond the pages of the classroom!

Thank you so much to Ms. Law, Mr. Morales, and Ms. Peccia for creating this amazing opportunity for our senior students.

The Arizona Council for Economic Education working with Ms. Perone and Mr. Vetnar created an incredible experience for BCHS Seniors through a financial fitness experience. Students received information about their finances and had to move station-to-station to budget for housing, transportation, health care, food, cellphone plans, and so on. Students had to determine what was essential while also maintaining a balanced budget with hopefully savings. The students had an authentic learning experience that will help them as they transition into their own financial journey after high school!

BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.

  • This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent or off in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
  • Students should be prepared with a fully charged Chromebook each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
  • It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
  • We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.

Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook . Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
