🎙️Message from our Principal, Dr. Nicole Irish
Greetings, LMS Families!
What a wonderful and energetic start to October we are having at Lilburn Middle School! We are so proud of our students' hard work as we continue through the semester, and we have an exciting week ahead filled with opportunities to support our community, celebrate student talents, and track academic growth.
District Assessments are coming up this week. On Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7, our students will be taking their District Interim Assessments! These assessments are a vital tool for our teachers, giving us a clear picture of where each student is in their learning journey at this point in the year. The data helps us celebrate their progress, tailor classroom instruction, and provide the exact support each child needs to succeed.
To help your student do their absolute best, please make sure they:
- Arrive on time so they can start testing calmly with their peers.
- Get a good night’s sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast.
- Bring a fully charged Chromebook and charger to school each day.
Thank you for encouraging your child to show what they know. We can't wait to see their growth!
This week, our Mustangs have three incredible opportunities to put empathy into action and give back to the community that supports us every day:
- Great Days of Service Food Drive (October 5–9): Great Days of Service is an annual, schoolwide tradition where our entire Mustang family joins together to make a meaningful difference. This week, we are collecting canned foods, rice, beans, and personal hygiene products to help restock local shelves. Please send non-perishable donations with your student to drop off in their Grade Level Academy or the Parent Center. All collected items go directly to the Lilburn Cooperative Ministry to support families right here in our local neighborhood!
- Hundred X / Helping Hands Ending Hunger Drive: We are thrilled to partner with Helping Hands Ending Hunger for a completely free, high-impact drive! Through the Hundred X platform, every honest opinion you share generates up to $1 for our school's food pantry, creating crucial financial support to keep our food pantry stocked and ready to serve LMS families in need. You can generate up to $75 per person simply by giving feedback on brands you already know! Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far—we are challenging all of our LMS family members to complete 3 to 5 quick surveys before the October 6 deadline to keep the momentum going. Simply text "HHEH" to 90412 or scan the QR code below to get started!
- Girls Basketball Double Good Popcorn Fundraiser (October 5–11): Support our Mustang Girls Basketball program as they kick off their week-long virtual popcorn fundraiser to help supply equipment and resources for the upcoming season!

Attendance Matters: The Great MUSTANG Race

📱 ParentVUE

SAT Word of the Week
This week’s word is jeopardize, a verb meaning to put someone or something at risk of harm, loss, or failure.
Example: “Missing several assignments could jeopardize a student’s grade.”
Ask your student to use jeopardize in a conversation or in their writing this week.
Tips for Families
A few quick ideas for supporting your middle schooler at home this week:
-
Help your student manage time. Have your child estimate how long homework or projects will take, then compare the estimate with the actual time spent. This helps students develop stronger planning skills.
-
Ask specific questions about school. Instead of asking, "How was your day?" try questions like, "What was something interesting you learned today?" or "What assignment are you most proud of this week?" Specific questions often lead to better conversations.
-
Encourage independent learning. As students grow, they need increasing opportunities to manage responsibilities on their own. Support their efforts by helping them organize assignments and plan ahead rather than solving every problem for them.
Nominate an LMS Hidden Hero
Know an LMS teacher, paraprofessional, bus driver, counselor, nutrition professional, custodian, coach, administrator, or staff member who is making a positive difference? Families can nominate a Hidden Hero through October 30 as part of the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement recognition program.
Nominate here: https://hiddenheroes.glisi.org/2026
