Get School Psych'd
November 2021
monthly newsletter for LSSPs in Region 10
Letter from the 'Editor'
Hey there LSSPs,
And just like that, October is over and way-too-early-to-be-playing-Christmas-music-and-how-can-it-be-a-Black-Friday-deal-if-it-is-available-every-day-for-two-months season is here.
We have TASP about to start and National School Psychology Week right around the corner. I hope you find a little time and space to take pride in your work as a school psych and get a little recognition from your campuses and teams. I know it is a busy time and I certainly appreciate all of the wonderful hard work you are all doing for students and schools across Region 10.
We here at Region 10 are also keeping busy. We have started to update and add some of our Spring 2022 sessions, which you can find on the PD for LSSPs newsletter (also linked at the bottom of every issue of Get School Psych'd) and we are currently in the process of digitizing some of our core offerings to make them available to you on-demand to address the high demands on your time. I hope to have some more details for you in the next edition!
If you see me at TASP, don't be afraid to come up and say hi!

A New Approach For Addressing Childhood Trauma - 11/9/2021 - 7:00-8:30PM
Without timely detection and treatment, early childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences can increase the risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, depression and anxiety, and substance use disorder later in life. But there’s hope: When early childhood professionals know how to address childhood trauma in sensitive, respectful and hopeful terms, they can:
• Help prevent negative labeling and self-fulfilling prophecies
• Protect parents’ critically important positive regard and dreams for their children
• Promote early identification and treatment
• Reduce stigma, shame and avoidance of needed services

Digging into research on using our resources of embodied, situated, and distributed cognition, Annie Murphy Paul provides an easy read into deep subject matter. I found little nuggets throughout the book and some pieces that really challenged some of my thinking around....thinking. :)
