Catching up with Ms. Buchite
How long have you worked as a counselor?
Six years as a school counselor but before that, Ms. Buchite worked in adult and child social work.
Why did you decide to work as a counselor?
In total, Ms. Buchite worked as a social worker for 14 years but she knew that was not what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, especially when she started working with children! She fell in love with her work which made her go back to school to be a counselor.
What things do you like about your job?
Working with students from a variety of ages, both high school and elementary. Helping people on daily basis. Preparing students for their journey beyond high school and assisting them with their preparations for college. She pretty much likes everything about her job!
What things do you not like about your job?
She doesn't like situations in her job that she can't control, fix, or can't do anything about.
How can you help students from your work?
She thinks that people just want to be heard, understood, and feel that there are people who understand them when they go through difficult times.
Do you think your job is complicated?
There are many situations that are difficult to solve, finding a way to help a person so they can feel better or resolve their difficulties is not something that can be taken lightly, which can make it a complicated career to have.
What is the best part of your job?
Her favorite part of her job is getting to know people, learning about their lives, their personalities, how they connect with each other, and seeing how people grow.

Battle Lake School Junior High Knowledge Bowl is well underway, so we caught up with Mr. Fitz to learn more and see how it's going!
We first wanted to know about the questions students are asked...are they hard? We were informed that the junior high questions are junior high level so they’re easier than that of senior high, but the senior high have more experience, so their questions are more difficult. Mr. Fitz also said that Knowledge Bowl has questions that relate to what you will and have learned at school, so if you study and pay attention in your classes, you can most likely improve your knowledge bowl skills. He also said trivia games, like Trivia Crack, can help students prepare for meets.
Next....the meets!
Junior High only has 3 meets per season and no other competitions take place after. One big change, as it relates to meetts, is that this year Mr. Fitz and the team will need to decide on a new place to eat at after the conclusion of the meet. Traditionally, the "spot" was Burger King, but sadly, the Burger Kings in Fergus have shut down…the restaurant Knowledge Bowlers have gone to after every meet.
Mr. Fitz, how long have you been doing this?
He has coached Knowledge Bowl (KB) since he came to Battle Lake and he enjoys watching the junior high realize that KB is really fun, and has a mix of fun, learning, and friends. It makes learning school related things fun and competitive. Fun fact: the reason KB is here at Battle Lake is because Mr. Fitz came here and decided to coach it, thank goodness because it is amazing and so much fun!
Is it too late to join?
As previously mentioned, Junior High is well under way, but Senior High KB starts after Thanksgiving, so you should join if your interested high schoolers!
Adventures with 4th Grade
Mr.Setterholm/Mr. Mollbergs's 4th Grade Class took a field trip to The Otter Berry Farm. The students combined the curriculums of reading, math, science, and art with their pumpkins. Reading, a map was used to help the students navigate through the huge corn maze. Students used math skills to measure the circumference of the pumpkins along with weighing them. Science, the students learned about the life cycle of the pumpkin and made predictions if they would float? Art, the students were able to paint the pumpkins with their wonderful imaginations! The 4th Grade Students would like to thank Otter Berry Farms for the awesome time learning and creating memories!!
