Happy Friday!

A few things to share from the week:

• 4th Graders said "Goodbye for Now!" to Mrs. Broughton today. She is getting ready to welcome a new baby soon! We are so excited for her. Jessie Ruth Corkins will join the group as the Long Term Sub after break. Next week, Ms. Lexie will take the lead in the classroom to provide consistency and predictability for the group.
• Ms. Pam announced yesterday that she will not be returning next year. She is moving out of state to be closer to family. We are so happy for her- and sad for us! We will miss Pam's passion for teaching as well as her creativity, kindness, humor and love she brings everyday. We are so lucky to have had her as part of our community these past two years.
• In 5th grade, students are working had on researching their inquiry questions. Part of this is conducting interviews of experts in the field. So far they have interviewed a Game Warden about invasive species as well as a Therapist to learn more about service dogs.
• Finally, our community time on Fridays is going so well! Students are loving the activities, and are SO excited to share with you at our Celebration of Learning.

5th Graders are Fundraising for KEEC!

Every Saturday from 8-12 they will be at Trash/Recycling Drop off collecting redeemable bottles & cans. Please consider donating your redeemables!

We are also hosting a basket raffle at our celebration of learning- stay tuned for more details!

Shoreham teachers and staff have been thinking deeply about how to best support our students both this year, and thinking forward to next year. We looked at data from all grade level cohorts, as well as shared our experiences to make this decision.

As you all know, we will have one fewer classroom teacher next year. This decision created an opportunity for us to think a little differently about classrooms and grades.

As a group we decided on the following configuration:

Kindergarten- Megan GG

1st & 2nd grade - Jaclyn Countryman

3rd Grade- New Hire

4th & 5th Grade- Makalya Broughton

4th & 5th Grade- Jenny Muskopf

We came to consensus that splitting next year's 4th and 5th grade cohort into two mixed grade sections offered many benefits. Those include: smaller class sizes (14-15 per class), a mix up of social dynamics, opportunities for increased teacher to student support, close collaboration between teachers, and the ability to be creative about academic groupings and instruction.

The process for determining placement in the 4/5 classrooms will be created collaboratively with the staff at Shoreham and shared as soon as possible. However, your feedback and thoughts are vital to the success of our students. Please reach out to me directly with questions, thoughts or concerns.

We are on week two for baseball practice. We have 5 teams and 70 kids participating which is amazing.

Stay tuned for home game updates as we would love to have people come cheer us on. Games will start the second week of May and will be every Tuesday-Minors, Wednesday-Mighty mites, Thursday-T-ball at 6pm.

We are actively working to remove the old wood posts and install new posts and a sign with a scoreboard as well down by the field.

With the number of teams we have we are looking to rip up the grass and set up another dirt field down below by the firehouse.
