APRIL 2026 - Virtue of LOVE
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." The second is this, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
There is no other commandment greater than these.
~ Mark 12:30-31
During the month of April, we focus on the virtue of Love.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a loving person ...
- wants the best for others
- is willing to make sacrifices for the good of others
- learns from the heroic lives of saints and holy people
- knows that we are all lovable as God created us
- offers prayers for the needs of others
- relates to family members in a loving, compassionate and respectful manner
- respects the rights, responsibilities and contributions of self and others
ONTARIO CATHOLIC SCHOOL GRADUATE EXPECTATIONS
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As we begin the month of April, the journey of Holy Week and the glory that unfolds over the Easter season is one which defines the truth, beauty, and goodness that flows from the great love that our God has for us. Our faith journey as Pilgrims of Hope seeks to discover the presence of Jesus in our lives, and we find immense joy with each of those revelations.
As we look forward to the warmth and beauty of spring, I pray we come together as a community bound by the virtues of compassion, kindness, and love. May this season serve as a reminder of the importance of fostering love and understanding in our hearts and homes, and in our classrooms where learning and growing is nurtured by committed and faithful educators.
To our cherished families, may this Easter be a time of togetherness and renewal, strengthening the bonds that unite us and reaffirming our shared commitment to your children and their Catholic education. On behalf of the entire staff of St. Timothy School:
May the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ fill your heart with hope and joy this Easter season.
Easter is truly a time of hope! Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen! Alleluia!
Blessings of Easter,
M. Masucci

LENTEN CHARITY DRIVE CONTINUES UNTIL AFTER EASTER
Many families have already generously donated soap, salt and candles throughout the season of Lent, as part of our almsgiving collection to help us reflect on kindness, compassion, and caring for others. Each item we collect has a meaningful purpose that connects to the needs of people in our wider community.
Kindergarten to Grade 3 students are asked to bring soap;
Candles are being collected by our Grades 4 to 6 students;
Grades 7 and 8 classes are collecting salt.
By collecting these simple items, we learn that even small acts of giving can make a big difference in someone’s life. Dr. Andrew Simone, the founder of the charity, Canadian Food for Children, will ensure that these items are directed to those in need. Thank you to everyone who has already donated items, and thank you to Mr. Borrelli's Grade 4 class for organizing this Lenten drive.
We will continue to accept items until the end of the week after Easter.
CLASS PLACEMENTS
We will soon begin the process of making class lists for the 2026-2027 school year.. This procedure takes into consideration not only the needs of the individual child, but frames those needs in the context of the larger classroom group dynamics. In each class, we strive for balance of learning styles, gender, learning needs and a cross-section of abilities. Current homeroom teachers, support staff and administration collaborate in the process.
If you as a parent/guardian wish to provide input, please take into consideration the following guidelines: Input must be put in writing and submitted to Ms. Masucci no later than May 8th, 2026. You may send a message to our school’s general InfoBox at St.TimothyInfo@dpcdsb.org or send a letter to the office with your child. The school will not accept letters after this date, and this includes summer months/September. Please submit requests in terms of educational contexts (e.g. your child's learning needs/strengths/style, peer relationships, information not already known to the school, preferred learning environment, etc.) Please do not make requests for specific teachers since staffing is always tentative and changes may occur after school begins in September when school organization and staffing are finalized.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
We ask any family who will be moving out of St. Timothy's school catchment area for the 2026-2027 school year to please notify the office in writing. We will be projecting student enrollment for September 2026 and having this information assists us in being more accurate with our projection. Your assistance with this information is greatly appreciated as school organization changes with enrollment at each grade level.
Even if a family moves and remains in the school's boundaries, please inform the school of any change of address as it is important that school records are accurate

🎶INTERMEDIATE DANCE TEAM 💃
Congratulations to our Intermediate Dance Team who participated in the Dance Showcase at Iona Catholic Secondary School on March 11th. Our school dance team took the spotlight first at a regional dance event with over 30 schools, delivering an energetic and expressive performance that highlighted their incredible talent and dedication. From sharp turns and powerful jumps to seamless transitions, the dancers captivated the audience with their precision and confidence. Their dynamic choreography reflected months of hard work, teamwork, and passion for dance, resulting in an honourable mention special award. We are so proud of how they represented our school with creativity, finesse, and spirit both on and off the dance floor! Thank you to Ms. Iannuzzi for coaching our Titans Dance Crew.

📜LETTER BY LETTER: MAKING IT BETTER FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
WRITE ON! Lenten Almsgiving Initiative
This Lent, our entire school community has come together in beautiful acts of kindness. As part of our Lenten outreach, students and staff have been writing heartfelt letters to seniors in our community—reminding them that they are valued and never alone.
Our Health Action Team has been leading this initiative, encouraging everyone to take a moment to brighten the day of a senior who might be feeling lonely or simply in need of a smile.
We are thrilled to share that so far, we have collected 150 letters! With a school-wide goal of 300 letters, we are well on our way. We have already mailed out 80 letters to seniors as close as Constitution Place on Stanfield Road, and as far as Chatham, ON. Our next set of letters are headed coast to coast – Victoria, BC to Baie Vert, Newfoundland.
Thank you to every student and staff member who has contributed. Each letter is a gift of kindness that will make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. Special thanks also to Ms. Zabukovec for her vision and passion for this community project.
EARTH HOUR 🌍 GREAT BIG CRUNCH 🍎 AND GREAT GULP 💧
ECO SCHOOL NEWS
Our Eco Team led a school-wide liturgy on Friday, March 27, in honour of Earth Hour, the Great Gulp, and the Great Big Crunch. Our Health Action Team also reminded us that we are encouraged to eat healthy snacks.
Together, we reflected on God's beautiful gifts of creation—our planet, our water, and the locally grown food we are grateful for. May God plant in each of us an appreciation and love for His sacred Creation, so that we may always remember to take care of ourselves so we can also care for others and our beautiful Earth. Thank you to Ms. Martins, Ms. Zabukovec, Ms. Kontostergios, and Ms. Smutnicki for leading these initiatives for our school.
SEW COOL ! 🧵🪡
SEWING STUDIO WORKSHOPS: Grades 1 to 8
On Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11, the Sewing Studio came to St. Timothy. Students in Grades 1–8 enjoyed an exciting hands-on experience as they learned the valuable and often forgotten skill of sewing. During our Sewing Studio sessions, students were highly engaged as they created their own projects using real sewing machines.
The Sewing Studio team brought over 20 sewing machines and provided excellent leadership, guiding students through sewing machine safety and teaching basic sewing techniques. Projects ranged from bow ties to kindness bags, allowing students to demonstrate creativity and pride in their work. Sewing also helps students develop their confidence and growth mindset, completing projects from start to finish while being motivated and inspired.
We are also thrilled to share that St. Timothy School received its very own sewing machine, which will allow students to continue developing their sewing skills in future projects. The experience sparked great enthusiasm. In fact, several students have already asked their teachers about starting a sewing club and requested to participate in similar activities again. This rewarding opportunity inspired creativity, problem‑solving, and a love of hands-on learning! Thank you to Ms. Gdyczynski for organizing this unique experiential learning opportunity!
FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH DIFFERING ABILITIES
WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY - April 2
April 2, 2026 is World Autism Awareness Day. Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world come together on April 2, Autism Awareness Day, to Light It Up Blue in recognition of people with autism and those who love and support them. Since that is Holy Thursday, throughout April after Easter, we will focus on educational activities aimed to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, foster worldwide support and inspire a kinder, more inclusive world. We will also feature announcements throughout the month of April to help spread kindness and raise awareness about autism.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK: May 3-8, 2026
This year’s Catholic Education theme is: “Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness” and is being recognized in the province of Ontario during the week of May 3-8, 2026.
Our lives as Christians are truly a path toward holiness – becoming, more and more, the people God created us to be. That will look different in each of our lives, but for all of us, we know that it is God’s Spirit at work in us who guides us toward holiness. The Holy Spirit inspires the light of hope and keeps that light burning, like an ever-burning lamp, to sustain and invigorate our lives.
Dufferin-Peel CDSB and our school celebrates the Catholic Education Week theme and sub-themes throughout the school year:
- Day 1: Peace be with you
- Day 2: God loves you
- Day 3: Christ saves you
- Day 4: The Holy Spirit lives in you
- Day 5: Together on the journey
At St. Timothy CES, students participate in activities which demonstrate how we are being Pilgrims of Hope together.
EDUCATION QUALITY AND ASSESSMENT OFFICE (E.Q.A.O.) - GRADES 3 & 6
At St. Timothy Catholic Elementary School, we understand that the purpose of the EQAO assessment is to promote academic excellence and improvement in student achievement throughout all schools in our province. As educators, we respond to our EQAO results with appropriate accountability, integrity and due diligence. As a Catholic school and as Catholic educators, however, we are called to respond in a distinctive manner for we believe that our students are described not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but also in terms of values, attitudes and actions. When we encourage our students to utilize all of their God-given gifts to the best of their ability, we are fostering an environment of servitude and promoting the understanding that we are loved and valued as children of God because of who we are rather than how we perform and what we produce.
📌MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the Math and Language provincial assessments during the week of June 1st – 5th. More information will be sent home prior to the dates. It is important for students to be in attendance at school during assessment dates; we ask that families do not schedule any vacation during this period.
The types of questions included in the EQAO e-assessment will be familiar to our students as they are based on the work they have been doing throughout the year. Sample assessments are available on the EQAO website for Grade 3 students and for Grade 6 students.
The EQAO assessment results help us to continue to improve upon the quality Catholic education offered to your children. For more information please visit here.

STUDENT STRATEGIES
T.H.I.N.K.
T. H.I.N.K. before you speak, write, or post!
T - is it True?
H - is it Helpful?
I - is it Inspiring?
N - is it Necessary?
K - is it Kind?
The students at St. Timothy School are taking a stance and THINKING before they speak. Please use these strategies at home, as to support the learning at school. Together we continue to support student well-being and model the virtues of our faith.
W.W.J.D.
WWJD is a popular acronym that is a simple yet powerful reminder to always act with love, compassion, and kindness toward others.
The idea behind it is that anytime you encounter a situation, you are to ask yourself, What Would Jesus Do? Then, that is what you are supposed to do.
So next time you’re faced with a difficult decision or encounter someone who may not see eye-to-eye with you, remember WWJD. Let’s choose love over hate and understanding over division. Together, let’s make this world a better place one small action at a time – and treat others as Jesus would and as we would want to be treated!
W. I. T. S.
The WITS program is how students at St. Timothy School are learning to solve problems in class and outside at recess. This program helps resolve and de-escalate problems before they become more severe. Staff continue to model these problem-solving strategies on a regular basis.
📌 PARENT REMINDERS
VOLUNTEERS - CBC with VSS
Attention to Parent Volunteers - TRIPS, SCHOOL EVENTS, etc.
Here is a great chance to help out at the school. A Criminal Background Check (CBC) is required for all volunteers (Annual Declarations for existing Volunteers).
Criminal Background Check must be with a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) - Level 3.
If you wish to accompany your child on a field trip as a supervisor or volunteer at the school, it is advisable to get your CBC-VSS early in the school year, as there is a processing time.
A letter may be obtained from the school to indicate that you are volunteering at St. Timothy C.E.S
COMMUNICATIONS: SCHOOL MESSENGER
Board Communications and School Information Updates are distributed via School Messenger.
We ask that parents/guardians check to see that they have not blocked School Messenger on their e-mail and/or text messaging settings. It is advisable that you set up the School Messenger app on your mobile phone. You may also inform the school about absences using School Messenger, which reports the absence in real time without having to call the Office. A note in your child's agenda is also helpful for the teacher.
CHILD SAFETY
The Child and Family Services Act compels educators to report any issues that may compromise a child’s welfare. If a staff member suspects any issue that may affect a child’s safety, then they have a duty to report to the Children’s Aid Society (CAS). It is not the role of the educator to investigate. That is the role of CAS as they deem appropriate.
CUSTODY OF CHILDREN
On occasion, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit with their child or take their child out of school. In order to assist us in making correct decisions in order to serve and protect each child, we ask that you make the office aware of any legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions that have been agreed upon. Please note that we require legal documentation of these arrangements, not merely a note from a parent.
ALLERGY ALERT
Some of the students in our school have severe life threatening allergic reactions to tree nuts, peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut by-products. For some children, even the smell of nuts or trace amounts of oil can bring on a severe attack. We need your cooperation! We kindly ask that you DO NOT send snacks to school that contain nuts or any nut products.
Please note that to ensure the continued safety of all students, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board with the support of the Anaphylactic Society and the Peel Health Department has recommended that students not bring peanut butter alternatives (e.g. Wow butter, soy butter, sunflower butter) to school. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting student safety.
*** Please do not send any snacks or food items for special occasions ***
(e.g. Birthdays, Hallowe'en, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc.). They will be sent home with your child.
Non-edible items (e.g. pencils, stickers, etc.) are accepted but not necessary.
HEAD INJURY PROTOCOL
When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however minor), it is Board Policy that we inform parents. This is precautionary only, and we request that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. A brochure containing information about concussions is also available. Again, this is a precautionary measure and for informational purpose.
Click the LINK below for more information.
ATTENDANCE and Safe Arrival: School Messenger
Whether it’s a medical appointment, an illness or other important event, there are times when students may need to be away from school. Using the SafeArrival system, parents will be able to report daily or future absences in one of three ways:
Web: Go to the SafeArrival website at go.schoolmessenger.ca
App: Download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Please note that SafeArrival uses the SchoolMessenger app.
Phone: Call the toll-free number 1-844-435-3440
Parents self-reporting their child's absence reduces the calls to the office for the parent, and the calls to the office from the school. Your support is appreciated.

You are also able to report immunizations through this website: https://peelregion.ca/health/vaccinations/child-vaccination-reporting
IF you have been notified by Peel Public Health, you need to report your child(ren)’s missing vaccine(s) as soon as possible. Peel Public Health sent suspension letters in the first week of March to families who are not in compliance. The suspension start date will be April 2nd as indicated by Peel Pulblic Health. Families affected have also been notifed via recent reminders on School Messenger.
Doctors do not report immunizations. Schools are also not responsible for updating any immunization records, although we appreciate you letting us know also once you have communicated with Peel Health!
PEDICULOSIS (Head Lice)
A problem which occurs from time to time in schools is an infestation of head lice also known as Pediculosis. Pediculosis is in no way connected with poor hygiene or dirt. Anyone can become infested. If a case of pediculosis is found in a classroom, the school will inform the parents of that class. If your child(ren) becomes infested by head lice, we request that you keep them home from school until after they have been treated with the correct treatment solution, and their hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits (eggs). Encourage your child(ren) not to share headwear, combs or brushes and check their hair periodically.
There is additional information on the Canadian Paediatric Society website or you may contact Health Line Peel at: 905-799-7700. Even if we all cooperate in these procedures, pediculosis may still occur, although there is a better opportunity to keep it under control. Information on head lice may also be obtained from your family doctor or pharmacist.
