It's A Great Time to Be A Witch!
“BE ABOUT IT”
-
Live the values of our school community; show pride, respect, and responsibility not just by saying it, but by consistently doing it.
-
Follow through on commitments, whether that’s in academics, athletics, arts, or personal goals.
-
Model integrity by letting your behavior reflect your intentions—be the example others can count on.
“BE ABOUT IT” means don’t just talk about who you are or what you stand for, prove it every day through effort, character, and action.
Be About It!

S.H.E.L.L.
S.H.E.L.L. (Salem High Educator Learning Lab) is a flexible, student-centered approach to education that is designed to support academic growth, exploration, and innovation. The Learning Lab provides educators with time, guidance, and resources to strengthen skills, receive targeted support, collaborate with peers, and extend learning beyond the traditional classroom.
Through SHELL, Salem High School is deepening its commitment to personalized learning—creating an environment where students can ask questions, try new strategies, get feedback, and build confidence as learners. Whether students need extra help, enrichment opportunities, or a place to work and reflect, SHELL is designed to bring educators together and design a meaning learning environment that will meet students where they are and help them move forward.
In order to provide our whole school community an understanding of some of the great things happening at Salem High School we have created a podcast that we will be using to tell our story and more importantly let our students and educators shine!
Episode 3.4 - Student Agency: We’re learning from Salem High peer mentors Alex (junior) and Mia (senior) as they talk about what it’s really like mentoring freshmen students. They share how teachers support and challenge them, how they’re getting ready for life after high school, and which experiences outside the classroom made the biggest impact along the way. It’s a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Salem chooses Segala as its new head football coach
Brett Segala is not the kind of person who dips a toe into chilly waters and wades his way slowly in. The 28-year-old Segala, who was officially named the head football coach at Salem High Thursday, is full of energy and all-in in whatever he does. He’ll bring that same enthusiasm and positive vibes to the Witches, starting with his first team meeting this coming Monday.

Early College News
Hello SHS Students and Families,
Welcome new and returning Early College students! All Early College families must complete the Family Expectations & Handbook Acknowledgement Form (SY26-27 Early College Handbook translation is in process). We have reached out to rising Sophomores and Seniors who requested/applied for Early College. If you are a rising junior, we are still working on your schedule, but you should be hearing from us soon!
We have extended the Early College application deadline to June 12, although some pathways have a waitlist. You may still get a head start on your college general education requirements while earning SHS credit–FOR FREE.
Registration- Some students have additional steps to confirm their registration (e.g. SSU registration form, NSCC Readiness checklist). Registration also depends on your SY26-27 schedule availability, overall student enrollment, and professor staffing. If you are opting out, please let your C3 counselor and I know by June 1.
I am available for virtual and in-person lunch drop in sessions on May 21 from 10:30-12:30. Please let me know if you will attend in person. If joining virtually, click here: https://meet.google.com/gjr-dcvd-bjq. We can also make an appointment, or please reach out if you have any questions or concerns: akirby@salemk12.org
We are looking for volunteer coaches and guest speakers for next year’s Early College programming. To be eligible, you must have an active CORI on file with SPS. We are especially interested in hearing from folks who work in healthcare, criminal justice, social work, education, business, or who are willing to share their own college and career journey.
