Principal Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The countdown is officially on and it's hard to believe the end of the school year is almost here! It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming your children in their new school clothes, full of energy and ready for an exciting year. Now, as we begin to wind down, we want to share a few important reminders and highlights with you.
Staying on Track in the Final Weeks
Even with summer on the horizon, maintaining regular routines is still important. Consistent schedules help students feel secure and focused, especially during this transitional time of year. Please continue to ensure your child arrives at school on time as being here at the start of the day sets them up for success!
Bravo to Our 5th Grade Performers!
A huge congratulations to our talented 5th-grade students for their outstanding performance of School House Rock Jr.! This beloved WCS tradition continues to pack the WHS auditorium and bring smiles to faces across our community. Special thanks to Mrs. Fothergill for her dedication! She always brings out the best in every student on stage!
Pick Up Patrol Tips & Reminders
We know this is a busy time of year, and we truly appreciate your help in keeping dismissal smooth and safe for all students. Here are a few helpful reminders about Pick Up Patrol (PUP):
-
Plan Ahead: If you know about upcoming appointments (like an orthodontist visit), you can enter the change in advance by selecting the specific date on the PUP calendar. This makes planning easier for both you and our staff.
-
Deadline for Changes: All dismissal changes—especially bus changes—must be entered into Pick Up Patrol before 1:20 PM.
-
This deadline ensures your child receives a bus pass, which they must hand to the bus driver in order to ride.
-
We hope this tip helps make these last few weeks a little smoother for everyone.

Destination Imagination goes to Kansas City
Congratulations to the “High Flying Engineers,” the Windham Center School DI team that competed in the DI Global Finals in Kansas City, MO over the Memorial Day weekend. As a team of seven 5th and 6th graders, they placed in the top half of their division, competing in a field of 38 Middle School teams in their division (grades 6-8)-–teams from around the country and the world.
Destination Imagination (DI) is a global creative problem-solving program that challenges students to work in teams and develop innovative solutions to STEAM-based challenges. Teams choose from six different challenge categories—such as technical, scientific, fine arts, improvisational, engineering, or service learning—and work for many months to design, build, and present their solutions at tournaments. This team has been working since the fall on their solution and won first place in the Middle [School] level Technical Challenge at the NH regional tournament in March. They designed and built equipment to assemble and destroy up to 20 stack items using different technical methods, including hydraulics and electromagnets. They also presented a story about a character seeking something important that they lack, incorporating a wishful scene and a frustration point. Notably, they also won first place in last year’s Engineering challenge, and this is the second year in a row that this team has participated in the Kansas City, MO Global Finals.
In addition to performing their skit and showcasing their STEM challenge solution, the team scored high in the “Instant Challenge:” a secondary challenge where teams complete a fast-paced, on-the-spot problem-solving activity that tests a team’s creativity, teamwork, and analytical skills. The Instant Challenges encourage quick thinking, adaptability, and collaboration, and they play a crucial role in DI competitions, as they account for a significant portion of a team’s overall score. The team enjoyed meeting and trading pins with DI participants from all over the globe.
Congratulations again to team members Addi C., Olivia C., Amelia F., Ari M., Jill R., Oliver T., Nolan W., and coaches Laura M. and Jeff W.

Important Car Drop Off and Pick Up Safety Notice
The safety of our staff and students is our top priority. When dropping off or picking up your child(ren), please follow the directions of our staff members holding stop signs. Students should not enter or exit vehicles until instructed by a staff member.
Additionally, we have installed two new signs at the Grade 6 crosswalk that read, “Do not block crosswalk.” These signs help ensure students can cross safely without having to navigate between cars.
