Principal Batten's Weekly Message
Welcome back V3A Huskies! I hope that you and your family had a wonderful summer. V3A teachers and staff have been busy preparing for your first week back to school. Schedules have been emailed out to all student email accounts. Carefully check the Zoom Master Schedule (https://v3a.online/ZoomSchedule) for class time. Click on the class to go to that teacher's Zoom class. Schedules are still being updated in Infinite Campus. We were still in the process of hiring a Gr6-8 ELA teacher and a Gr7-11 Science teacher. Check the Zoom schedule for any updates. If you have questions or see any conflicts, please email Principal Dr. Batten (jbatten@vcs.k12.nc.us).
V3A 1st Day of School - Monday, August 24
- Zoom classes start at 8:15 am
- Zoom classes are 45-60 minutes long
- Zoom class attendance is required (cameras on, full faces showing)

- TUESDAY (Aug 25) 2nd day of Zoom classes. Fire Marshall inspection ~9am; Staff mtg 12:30pm

- THURSDAY (Aug 27) 4th day of Zoom classes
- FRIDAY (Aug 28) 5th day of Zoom classes. Weekly Reflection

The Gates Scholarship (TGS) by Sept 15, 2026
To apply, students must be:
- A high school senior
- Pell-eligible
- A US citizen or permanent resident
- In a good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)

Volunteer Applications Available Online
If you have someone interested in becoming a volunteer, they can now complete the application online! It is also still available in paper form. The application can be accessed on the VCS website under Community...or the direct link to the online application is https://bit.ly/VolunteerVCS.
The Process:
1. Application Submission Online (or paper copy turned in to Communications)
2. Applications processed through Communications
3. Background Check initiated by HR
4. Prospective Volunteer completes information from BiB in email
5. HR reviews the results upon BiB completion
6. Communications contact prospective volunteers with results
7. If approved, the volunteer must pick up a badge and is added to the official volunteer list.
Please note, the volunteer application may take up to 2-weeks to process.
