Principal's Weekly Update
Week of March 3-7
Administrator's Message 🐾
Dear Wildcat Families,
This week, we are kicking off a month-long March Madness Challenge in an effort to increase attendance and positive behavior.
Why?
Research shows that students who attend 90-100% of instruction are set up for lifelong success. Being absent can lead to performing poorly in school. Students deemed chronically absent (missing more than 10% of instruction) or truant (accruing 18 or more periods of unexcused absences or tardies over 30 minutes) are more likely to:
- fail their classes;
- drop out from high school;
- have poor relationships with parents and teachers.
Students will be competing against other first period classes, other grade levels and individually. Our March Madness first period brackets are posted for students. Students with perfect attendance are entered in raffle prizes drawing weekly. In addition, the grade level with the highest attendance rate each week will get a special reward involving some fun activities with staff members.
We hope you will help us with reinforcing the importance of regular school attendance. Let the March Madness Challenge begin!

Celebrating Our Community's Diversity
The cities of Fairfield and Suisun City are two of the most diverse communities in California. To honor that diversity, each week FSUSD will be sharing information about the cultures that make up our extra special learning community.
March is Women’s History Month. In the United States, Women's History Month traces its beginnings back to the first International Women's Day in 1911. In 1978, the school district of Sonoma, California participated in Women's History Week, an event designed around the week of March 8 (International Women's Day). In 1979, a fifteen-day conference about women's history was held at Sarah Lawrence College and chaired by historian Gerda Lerner. It was co-sponsored by Sarah Lawrence College, the Women's Action Alliance, and the Smithsonian Institution. When its participants learned about the success of the Sonoma County's Women's History Week celebration, they decided to initiate similar celebrations within their own organizations, communities, and school districts. They also agreed to support an effort to secure a National Women's History Week.
BGW Happenings
Scooter Boards!
Students in PE got to break in the new scooter boards! This was a fun and engaging activity that got students moving and practicing their coordination.
Spelling bees 🐝
Last month, Ms. Latini held a BGW spelling bee and the top two students moved on to the county competition. At this weekend's Solano County Spelling Bee, B. Gale Wilson had two representatives - Amelie Gee and Matteo Taylor (the two winners of the BGW Spelling Bee). Out of 96 students from 48 schools across the county Amelie and Matteo came in 12th and 9th respectively! Go Wildcats!
