Parent Conferences Parent Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are coming soon, and I want to share why your participation is so important for your child’s success.

  • Strengthen home–school partnership: Conferences offer a focused space for families and teachers to share observations, goals, and strategies. When we work together, students benefit from consistent expectations and support.

  • Celebrate growth and identify needs: This is a chance to hear about your child’s academic progress, social development, and classroom strengths. It also allows us to identify any challenges early and plan targeted support.

  • Clarify goals and next steps: Teachers can explain classroom expectations, learning targets, and assessments, and together we can set clear, realistic goals and action steps you can reinforce at home.

  • Personalized connection: Short conversations during drop-off or email are helpful, but conferences let us dig deeper into your child’s learning style, interests, and needs in a private, uninterrupted setting.

  • Build student accountability: When students see adults collaborating around their learning, they often feel more motivated and responsible for their progress.

I strongly encourage every family to attend. Conferences will be held on the week of March 9th - March 13th with options for in-person or virtual meetings. Your child's teacher should be sending home (via paper or Class Dojo) options for you to sign up to meet. This is our final parent conference. Please connect with your child’s teacher to schedule a time that works for you.

Thank you for partnering with us to support your child. We look forward to meeting with you.

And just so you have our dismissal schedule for that week, I am laying it out here.

  • Monday, March 9th, 2:28 pm dismissal
  • Tuesday, March 10th, 1:28 pm dismissal
  • Wednesday, March 11th, 12:53 dismissal
  • Thursday, March 12th, 12:53 dismissal
  • Friday, March 13th, 12:53 dismissal

Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw: Take Care of Yourself to Be Your Best

This week we are focusing on Habit 7. What is habit 7? Habit 7, "Sharpen the Saw," means regularly caring for our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits so we have the energy and balance to learn, lead, and grow. For elementary children, this looks like small, consistent habits that help them feel healthy, curious, kind, and calm.

Synergize

Body (Physical Health)

  • Regular sleep routine: aim for a consistent bedtime and wake time.
  • Move together: family walks, bike rides, dance breaks, or active play for 20–30 minutes.
  • Healthy snacks: involve your child in choosing or preparing fruits, veggies, and water.

Brain (Learning & Thinking)

  • Read daily: 10–20 minutes of shared or independent reading.
  • Play brain games: puzzles, memory games, simple strategy board games.
  • Explore curiosity: do a short science experiment, nature walk, or ask “Why?” questions and research answers together.

Heart (Emotions & Relationships)

  • Practice gratitude: share one thing each person is thankful for at dinner.
  • Connect time: one-on-one conversation—ask about the best and hardest part of their day.
  • Teach empathy: role-play scenarios or talk about characters’ feelings in stories.

Spirit (Purpose & Rest)

  • Quiet moments: short guided breathing, listening to calming music, or a bedtime reflection.
  • Family values: name one family rule or value and notice when someone shows it.
  • Acts of service: simple ways to help at home—set the table, care for a pet, or make a card for a neighbor.

Tips for making it easy

  • Keep routines short and consistent — small habits add up.
  • Let your child help choose activities so they feel ownership.
  • Celebrate progress — notice and praise effort, not just results.

If families regularly "sharpen the saw" in these four areas, children come to school more ready to learn, cooperate, and lead.

Friendship Dance Friendship Dance

A huge shout out to our parents who showed up and made our MPR friendship dance ready. The students had so much fun and did not want to leave! Ask your student if they decided to go to the yard and play or join the friendship dance.

Career Day Career Day

Prepare for Career Day

Thank you to all the parents and community members who signed up for career day! For Friday, February 27th, we are asking all students/staff to come dressed in an aspiring career or a college they'd like to attend!

Talking with your child about Career Day prepares them emotionally and academically and helps them get more out of the experience.

  1. Builds excitement and reduces anxiety: Previewing who they’ll meet and what to expect makes the day less scary and more fun.
  2. Connects learning to real life: Discussing jobs helps children see how school skills (reading, math, teamwork) are used in careers.
  3. Sparks curiosity and ambition: Conversations can introduce new interests and expand ideas about what’s possible for their future.
  4. Encourages gratitude and respect: Talking about why people work helps children appreciate different roles and the effort others put in.
  5. Supports follow-up learning: After Career Day, discussing what they learned deepens understanding and can lead to family activities (books, videos, projects).
