Another quick week at DKHS. It was nice to see some of you at the parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday. Don’t forget you have another opportunity on Tuesday, October 21st, from 2-4 PM or 5-8 PM to meet with teachers. We have just one week left in the first marking period, and we have been reminding kids to communicate with their teachers and get any missing work turned in before Friday, the 24th.

One of the highlights for this week was our Varsity Volleyball team securing another SAC Central Division Championship. That makes them back-to-back Champions in the Central. Our Panthers have now won their last 10 matches 30-1 in sets. That is a lot of 3-0 sweeps. Shout out to our first responders and police who brought them through town after the win in Holland with an impromptu victory parade. Our football team had another storm-the-field moment, beating GA in one of the more exciting football games I have seen anywhere recently. A BIG Goal Line Stand to hold GA out of the endzone in the last seconds secured the win over the Rams.

This year, we will be hosting volleyball districts with games Monday-Wednesday-Friday the week of November 3. Let's pack the gym on those nights that our girls are competing as they look to add a District Championship to their great season. Information on the bracket should be out in the near future. Watch for details on our DK athletic Facebook page. GO PANTHERS!!!

Don’t forget we have after-school tutoring and support in our Success Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is free with an open house format where kids can come and go as they wish to get some extra work time, tutoring, and other general academic support. Success Center and students' effective use of our Academic Enrichment Period each day are both designed to help kids find success. I highly recommend that students utilize these times to their advantage.

Monday was quite a day here as we held our ribbon-cutting for the new IGNITE Lab. Delton Kellogg High School was visited by members of the media, the office of State Senator Thomas Albert, the Barry County Chamber & Economic Development Alliance, and others. This $500,000 grant through a partnership of Amatrol, LIFT, and DK Schools has our kids positioned well for in-demand jobs, manufacturing skills, and training in the trades. We are extremely appreciative and excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our students.

We are also in the final stages of planning the details of our new Ag Science barn, greenhouse, press box, and athletic team room at the south end of the stadium. These enhancements and many more to come are possible due to the generous support of our community. Once again, we say thank you for your support as we move to make Delton a Destination District.

Giving a HUGE shout out to the DK Varsity football team and coaches for their help in cleaning up the community school garden last night. They literally transformed it from a mass of weeds and old plants to a flat, empty bed and were able to winterize it with a tarp in just under 40 minutes. AMAZING work, and we appreciate it. Thank you for giving back through your time and teamwork. The community school garden is a place where students learn about growing food, the value of nutrition, and where hundreds of pounds of fresh-grown produce are shared back with the community. That makes these guys my Hogie’s Heroes this week for stepping up and DOING A JOB!!!

GUEST SPEAKER GUEST SPEAKER

Last Friday, thanks to the generosity of a local community member, DKMS and DKHS students were treated to a special guest speaker John Beede. John shared his story of leadership and goal setting while talking about his time climbing the highest peaks on each of the 7 continents.
