The Power of Coming Together
The Superintendent's Blog
We started the year with three extraordinary moments, all at Buell Stadium in the heart of Millard. They happened because people joined forces. Pulling everyone together unleashes a power that none of us can create alone, and these events are worth celebrating.
The first was the All Staff Kickoff. It's notable because as far back as any of us can recall, we've always split the kickoff into groups. This was challenging because there are nearly 3,000 of us, and it takes a lot of logistics to get everyone in one place! But we did it, and it was incredible.
The next happened yesterday as the sun came up. It was a real sight to see, one that makes me very proud. The set up for the first-ever Battle at Buell volleyball jamboree required a portable volleyball floor to be assembled on the field. It was heavy and complicated, and it happened because our football teams showed up to pitch in and set up. Check out the cool time lapse video below from Hurrdat Sports.
The third was the Battle at Buell. This was coach-driven. They had the idea, organized all the details, and fundraised to make it a reality. The result was an amazing night of volleyball that started in the late afternoon and ran until past sundown. It was wonderful to see how many of us came out to support our student athletes and enjoy a beautiful summer evening.
These moments remind me that even though we serve 23,000 students, Millard is still a very tightly connected community. It truly takes all of us, in every role, to meet the high aspirations of our mission. As this school year begins, I am grateful for your partnership and excited for all that lies ahead.
