ONE LCPS Celebration Day Highlight 2025

A huge thank you to our amazing schools, staff, students and community for making this year’s One LCPS Celebration Day such a success! This annual tradition is all about celebrating the people who make Loudoun County Public Schools such a special place to learn, work and grow. Dr. Spence and his team visited nearly half of the schools across the county. It was truly inspiring to see so much creativity, enthusiasm and school spirit. Thank you once again to our students, staff and community for making this year’s One LCPS Celebration Day unforgettable.

How LCPS Is Using Generative AI to Support Student Learning How LCPS Is Using Generative AI to Support Student Learning

Generative artificial intelligence, or Gen AI, is rapidly becoming a part of daily life. In many industries, including sales, software development and medicine, Gen AI tools are becoming essential tools for work. LCPS is being thoughtful in its approach to using Generative AI to support teaching and learning in ways that align with our instructional framework.

What is generative AI? It is a type of artificial intelligence that can create text, pictures, music, art, video or computer code. In LCPS, teachers may use AI tools to design lesson materials, tailor resources for different learners or spark new approaches to teaching. With teacher guidance, students are beginning to explore how these tools can help them augment ideas, solve problems and develop the skills they will need for the future.

LCPS follows Policy 5430, Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence, and clear guiding principles to support the responsible use of AI. Academic integrity and student safety are important priorities when considering Generative AI use in schools. Only Division-approved tools are permitted for use by students. Each tool is reviewed for student privacy, safety and instructional value. Students are expected to use AI honestly, produce work that reflects their own effort and understand that learning happens best when their own thinking guides the process.

Together, families, teachers and staff are helping students grow, think and lead with confidence in a future where AI will play an important role. As technology continues to advance, LCPS will approach these tools with care and purpose to support student learning.

You might ask your student: How have you seen generative AI show up in your classroom?

LCPS is Reviewing Attendance Boundaries of 18 Elementary Schools LCPS is Reviewing Attendance Boundaries of 18 Elementary Schools

This fall, LCPS is planning to review the attendance boundaries for 18 elementary schools in the Ashburn/Dulles North region -- Ashburn, Belmont Station, Cedar Lane, Creighton’s Corner, Discovery, Dominion Trail, Elaine E. Thompson, Hillside, Legacy, Madison’s Trust, Mill Run, Moorefield Station, Newton-Lee, Rosa Lee Carter, Sanders Corner, Seldens Landing, Steuart W. Weller and Waxpool Elementary Schools. Adopted Ashburn and Dulles North attendance zone changes will take effect with the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

This review process is designed to ensure our schools are well-balanced – neither overcrowded nor under-utilized – so every student has access to the resources and opportunities they need. The attendance zone review reflects LCPS’ commitment to our Instructional Framework, which ensures that students and families can expect consistency across schools and that educators and school staff are committed to covering curriculum and content with engaging and effective practices – no matter which school the student attends. This attendance boundary review is also supported by Policy 6530, updated in April 2025, which now requires that every five years, all school attendance zones be reviewed.

To support this fall’s attendance boundary process, the Loudoun County School Board has scheduled a series of meetings to share information, gather feedback and explore potential attendance zone changes. We encourage families and community members to stay informed and participate in the conversation.

The meeting dates are:

  • Tuesday, October 28, 2025* - Elementary School Attendance Zone Overview

  • Wednesday, November 5, 2025 - Elementary School Attendance Zone Public Hearing & Work Session

  • Monday, November 24, 2025 - Elementary School Attendance Zone Public Hearing & Work Session

  • Tuesday, December 2, 2025* - Review of Elementary School Attendance Zone Recommendations

  • Monday, December 8, 2025 - Elementary School Attendance Zone Briefing & Public Hearing

  • Tuesday, December 16, 2025* - Adoption of Elementary School Attendance Zone Changes

All meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the LCPS Administration Building (21000 Education Court, Ashburn). Meeting dates noted with an asterisk (*) are in conjunction with a regular School Board meeting. Public comment and engagement is welcome throughout this process. Community members can address the School Board at the dedicated elementary school attendance zone public hearings on November 5, 24 and December 8; during the public comment period of School Board meetings or can submit written comments to the LCPS Division of Planning & GIS Services at lcpsplan@lcps.org. All written comments will be shared with the School Board. Attendance zone information and data will be posted on a dedicated Fall 2025 – Ashburn & Dulles North School Attendance Zone Change Process web page.

Learning Through Empathy and Curiosity Learning Through Empathy and Curiosity

Reflect and connect graphic

In LCPS, our strength begins with community. Across more than 100 schools, 80,000 students and 13,000 employees, we celebrate the diversity that makes our classrooms vibrant and our learning experiences richer. Each interaction, whether in class, on the playground or at a family event, offers an opportunity to connect, understand and grow together.

Aligned with the division’s priorities, led by Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence, and embedded in the LCPS Instructional Framework, the pillars of belonging, engagement and empowerment help nurture empathy and curiosity as key components of effective teaching and learning. When students feel seen, valued and supported, they are more willing to share their ideas, try new approaches and learn from one another’s perspectives.

Everyone can strengthen empathy and curiosity through everyday learning and interactions. Which one(s) will you try today?

  • Diversify perspectives. Read books or watch age-appropriate videos that showcase different cultures, places and experiences. Ask: “What new ideas or experiences did we discover?” Follow with: “How might these stories help us see the world and one another differently?”

  • Welcome curiosity. Curiosity can come through questions, observations or simple moments of wonder. When children notice differences, such as how someone moves, communicates or dresses, respond with openness and respect: “That person uses a wheelchair, which helps them move around. There are many ways people get where they need to go.” This models curiosity as a way to understand, not to compare.

  • Explore together. Attend, participate in or advocate for cultural events at your school. These shared experiences allow everyone to celebrate their own traditions and learn about others in the community, creating space for appreciation and connection.

  • Build empathy through stories. When reading or watching a story together, pause to reflect. For example: “The main character had to leave their home and start somewhere new. What do you think that feels like?” Follow with: “Empathy means imagining how someone else might feel and showing care through our actions. When have you felt that way or helped someone who did?”

  • Focus on shared values. When discussing differences, highlight the strengths and common goals that connect us: “Even with our differences, we all value time together and caring for our community.” This approach honors each person’s background while recognizing what unites us.

Reflect and Connect: What is one small way you can invite empathy or curiosity into your conversations this week at school, at home or in your community?
