PSAT
All 10th and 11th graders are automatically registered to take the PSAT on October 15, 2025 at 7:15am at Jordan HS. Tester room lists will be posted around the school the day before the test. Students with AM Miller Career Center or Late Arrival should also arrive to JHS and report to their test room by 7:15am to test. Students who are not inside their test rooms by 7:30am will forfeit their opportunity to test. Late students will report to a holding room for study hall until testing has concluded.
Students are responsible for bringing their student ID, a fully-charged Chromebook, a writing utensil, and snacks/drinks for the break. All 11th graders will be provided with a hand-held calculator and scratch paper. 10th graders will not be provided with a hand-held calculator but can use the built-in Desmos calculator. All students may provide their own hand-held calculator, but please review the updated College Board Calculator Policy on the College Board website as only non-CAS calculators may be used (new this year). Students may not have any prohibited items (listed on the College Board website). Students caught with prohibited items at any time (including during the break) will be dismissed from testing, and scores will be cancelled.
Please view the 25-26 PSAT Parent Letter with information from Katy ISD - including the PSAT/NMSQT® Student Guide.
11th graders who wish to be entered into the NMSQT Competition should very carefully read the information starting on page 33 of the Student Guide. There are specific entry requirements that necessitate answering the questions in the readiness check before the exam. Page 35 shows the questions that must be answered, and pages 37-38 show what determines if students meet entry requirements. 10th graders will not participate in NMSQT.
9th and 12th graders will participate in grade level activities instead of 1st-3rd periods. All students will attend 4th-7th periods on a modified bell schedule.
If you have any questions, you may email me at melanieppiche@katyisd.org.

GPA Exempt
Katy ISD has opened the GPA exempt tile for our students. A student would GPA-exempt a course to protect their GPA while still earning credit, pursuing interests, and showing commitment to electives or career pathways that are 4.0 courses.Students can be granted GPA exemptions for certain courses, primarily CTE courses, Fine Arts courses or Athletic courses. The student must be in the level 2 course or higher. To be eligible, students need a 4.0 GPA or higher. They can apply for a maximum of three GPA-exempt credits during their high school career, and the GPA Exempt tile can be found in MyKaty. Once your student is in the GPA Exempt tile, they will see what courses they are able to exempt. You can find more information on what courses qualify for GPA exemption on the Katy ISD website
GT Classes
Secondary students may be screened for GT classes, provided they have not already been screened this school year. Parent checklists are available in the GT Tile in MyKaty Cloud from September 2nd through October 3rd. If students are already enrolled in some GT classes and wish to enroll in more GT classes, they may complete a "Request for Additional Services," also found in the GT Tile in MyKaty Cloud. Forms have a firm deadline of 11:59 pm on Friday, October 3rd, for completion. Paper checklists will not be accepted.

Campus Information
Parking Lot Safety
Parents/Guardians,
Many of our students ride bicycles, scooters, or electric bikes to school, and we want to emphasize the importance of discussing parking lot safety with them.
While on school property, students should stay on the sidewalks, travel at a minimal speed, and avoid cutting through the parking lot. During high-traffic times—such as arrival and dismissal—students should walk their bicycles, scooters, or electric bikes until they are safely past areas with pedestrian and staff traffic.
For families who drop off or pick up students, as well as student drivers, please be extra cautious and watch for students walking or riding.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders:
- Students should only be dropped off at the front or back of the school.
- Please do not drop off students in the staff parking lot or the bus driveway.
- Refer to the parking lot map for designated drop-off and pick-up areas.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all students, staff, and families.
Testing Information
JHS Testing Procedure for all assessments. Each time there is an assessment, the following information will be displayed on the smart panel.
This procedure mirrors state and national testing standards as well as testing procedures at other high schools. We believe it will result in a more secure testing environment. If you need clarification, please reach out to your student’s grade-level assistant principal.
