Everyone at Norwich Middle School is excited about the start of the the new school year! We have been working hard in anticipation of the students arrival on Thursday, September 8, 2022. It is going to be a GREAT school year.

Some reminders as we start the school year:

  • First Bell starts at 8:25 for ALL students each morning. Make sure your child is here on time!!
  • Check out our school lunch information at this link for more information on our school's homepage. (www.norwichcsd.org).
  • If you are dropping off or picking up your child, we only use the back parking lot
  • Please be patient at the start of the year as we work out the kinks and everyone gets used to the system. There are a lot of new things at the start of the school year, and students need to get acclimated to them. Things will smooth out as we go.

We hope that everyone is as excited as we are for the start of the school year. See you on Thursday!!

Meet and Greet - Wednesday, September 7th - 10:00-12:00

Join us for our school's Meet and Greet program on September 7th from 10:00-12:00. Students and parents will have the opportunity to:

  • Get your schedule for the School Year
  • Walk your schedule and meet your teachers
  • Get your locker information and try out your locker
  • Meet the Principal and New Staff at NMS

We look forward to everyone coming by for this exciting school year kick-off event!!

Dropping off/Pick up Procedures 2022-2023

We have an important update to the parent drop off and pick up procedures for this school year.

We will be using the BACK PARKING LOT for Middle School parent drop off and pick up this year.

ALL cars must pull in on the south end of the district office and follow the road to the back parking lot. Student pick-up will be in the back lot, and then you will drive back up to Midland Drive to go home.

NO STUDENTS should be dropped off in front of the Middle School/District Office. This is a major safety concern for your child as well as you!! Thank you for your attention to this important matter!!

Please see the map below for a map of the pick up and drop off area for all students.

Thank you for your attention to this critical change for this school year!!

Counselor Connection

Welcome Back!

School Counselors, Mr. Bennett and Mrs. van der Sommen are excited to start the 2022-2023 school year and look forward to seeing both our returning and new students!

Our School Counseling Program is designed to help students be successful in the areas of academics, social/emotional awareness, and career exploration. We meet with students individually, in groups, and provide classroom lessons on various topics throughout the year. Our first lesson will be to introduce ourselves and review our school counseling roles and referral process.

In addition to working with our students we consult with parent/guardians, teachers/school staff, and outside professionals.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions about our program or how we can assist you or your child.

Social Work at NMS - A Message from Mrs. Button

Welcome back to school Norwich Middle School!! I am excited to see returning students as well as all our new students! I am Mrs. Jessica Button the Middle School Social Worker, and I am here to help all students and faculty as needs arise. Some of my roles include:

- Provide evidence-based education, behavior, and mental health services: address school and community stressors that interfere with educational success.

- Promote a school climate and culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence: a psycho-social environment that fosters academic engagement and achievement.

- Maximize access to school-based and community-based resources: may involve coordinating available services within the school or reaching out to community partners to secure services.

- Crisis interventions and social emotional learning (SEL).

Students can request to see me through our Student Support Services form in the main office and/or parents and staff can recommend them to my services.

Please feel free to reach out to me at any time and I will do my best to assist your student(s) and/or family.

I can be reached by calling Norwich Middle School’s main office and asking to speak with me directly.

I look forward to the 2022-2023 school year and hope that we all meet at one point throughout the school year!

A message from our At-Risk Coordinator

Hello. I’m Inez Moutarde, At-Risk Coordinator for the Norwich Middle School. Middle school can be difficult for young people to navigate, so one of the goals for At-Risk is to be available to help guide students to make better choices for themselves. I will be available to help with goal setting to get them through this next year. I can be reached via email at imoutarde@norwichcsd.org and students can stop by and see me in room 2010.
