Hello 5th Grade Families!

It is hard to believe our kids are entering their last semester as elementary students!

We are looking forward to the many fun ways we get to celebrate our 5th graders and all the ways they have learned and grown over the past 6 years, including an AWESOME off-campus party on May 13th at Pinstacks! This party includes bowling, lunch, a ropes course, climbing wall, unlimited game cards, and more!

In order to help fund this amazing (and expensive) event, we are having a fundraiser! We will be selling shoe charms that fit on crocs, tennis shoes, or bracelets(available for purchase). All of the profits from this fundraiser will go towards the 5th grade party and making it as awesome as possible.

The fundraiser will be held February 5th-9th during all lunches. We need parents to help manage sales. Please consider signing up on the attached sign-up genius link for 1hr time slots (or more!)

We are also looking for a parent to help put together an end of the year video that will be shown after the party. We will be collecting baby and 5th grade pictures of each student as well as pictures from events and classes over their years at Smith! If you might be interested in helping with this, please reach out to me (Hilary Grant) at hilarykgrant@gmail.com and we will discuss further details.

Thank you so much for supporting our 5th graders!

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Our school day begins at 7:45 AM and ends at 3:05 PM. Please read the information below for important information regarding drop off and pick up.

Per district safely policies, our building is not open to students until 7:20 AM. Please do not drop your child off before this time, as they will not be supervised or allowed in the building until 7:20. You are welcome to drop off at either car loop this year.

Students are released to their classrooms at 7:30, and the tardy bell rings at 7:45. Please make every effort to have your child at school no later than 7:40 so they have time to unpack, prepare for the day, and participate in our daily morning meeting that begins promptly at 7:45.

Our school day ends at 3:05. At that time, a teacher will walk the various groups to their dismissal areas.

Carpool Pickup Information

The Smith staff makes every effort to have a safe and efficient carpool. Please read the information below to help ensure all students are safe and the carpool line doesn't get backed up.

  • Please make sure you hang the purple car name tag from the rear view mirror every time you pick up in the carpool lane. This helps us tremendously!
  • Please make sure you do not stop where your child's class is lined up if there is space for you to pull forward. Your child will come to you.
  • Please, NEVER exit your vehicle while in the carpool lane. We will help students enter their car.
  • Follow the proper flow of the of the dismissal traffic.

Changes to Dismissal

If you need to make a change in your child's dismissal during the day, you must contact the office by 2:00 pm to inform them of the change, even if you email your child's teacher. Our day moves at a very fast pace and there's no guarantee that we will see the change in time. Contacting the front office will ensure that we get the message and know how your child is getting home. Thank you!

Rainy Day Dismissal

On rainy days, 5th graders who go home by car will still be dismissed from by the 3-5 carpool line, however they will wait inside. It is very important that you have your child's car name tag visible so we can have your child ready to go when you pull through the lane. Several staff members will be waiting with umbrellas to escort your child to your vehicle. For parents whose child is normally a biker or walker and are picking up their child from the walker area and then walking to a parked car, please wait under the covered playground, and a staff member will get your child for you. We realize this procedure takes a little bit longer, and we appreciate your patience as we make sure all students are dismissed safely.
