EHS players, coach win at All-State Volleyball
Elizabeth High School graduates Jordan Martinez and Lauren Rohlwing recently played on the 2024 Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Volleyball Games June 13-14 in Pueblo.
CHSCA Coaches from across Colorado voted for the top Class of 2024 athletes to compete a final time against the best in their sport.
Jordan and Lauren were selected to compete on the Red Team with players from Ft. Lupton, Dove Creek, Aspen, Plateau Valley, Stratton, Hoehne and Idalia. The event was made even more special with EHS Head Coach Tracy Wait selected by CHSCA to be one of the Red Team coaches. Over two days they practiced and bonded before taking on the rest of the best volleyball seniors in Colorado.
"The Red Team dominated the competition in their Day 1 match, putting them in the championship match versus the Black Team on Day 2," Wait said. "The firepower and defense of the Red Team overwhelmed the Black Team and they took the 2024 CHSCA Championship!
"Both Jordan and Lauren played amazing, high-level volleyball to finish their high school volleyball careers with a decisive victory!" he said.
Thanks to Coach Wait for the information and photos!
Even more photos of the games are on the CHSCA Facebook page.

ALUMNI UPDATE
2022 valedictorian returns to Colo. for internship
Avery Martinez, one of the valedictorians of Elizabeth High School’s Class of 2022 and a Daniels Fund Scholarship winner, is already approaching her final year of college at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
With a combination of numerous concurrent enrollment and Advanced Placement classes at EHS, plus a few summer classes in college, Avery will earn her bachelor’s degree at GCU after only three years. She is majoring in forensic science with a minor in Spanish.
This summer, she has another huge opportunity thanks to her scholarship: She is a Daniels Scholar Junior Fellow with an internship at the Colorado office of the Common Sense Institute in Greenwood Village.
According to its website, CSI is committed to independent, in-depth research that examines the impacts of policies, initiatives, and proposed laws so citizens are educated and informed on issues affecting their lives. The organization’s work is driven by data-supported research and evidence. CSI is nonpartisan and does not take positions.
For her eight-week internship this summer, Avery works as a research assistant and event planner for Janelle Wood, CSI’s ‘A Choice for Every Child’ Fellow. Her research relates to parental choice and children’s ability to pursue their educational endeavors in safe and supportive learning environments.
Avery said her hopes for the summer are to gain overall professional skills including “being well-spoken, concise and efficient – portraying what I want to say clearly.” Whether her degree leads to a forensic-science career or toward her other top option of becoming a physician’s assistant, she knows her experience this summer will help make her a better researcher, problem solver and communicator.
Help shape ideas for outdoor amenities in Elizabeth
The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) board today announced the award of a $125,000 grant to the Town of Elizabeth to develop the Greater Elizabeth Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan. The grant is part of GOCO’s Planning and Capacity program, which invests in projects that address
opportunities, explore issues, engage communities, and examine trends in the outdoors.
Elizabeth has seen significant population growth in recent years, putting mounting pressure on the area’s outdoor recreation facilities and resources. Through this plan, the town hopes to address urgent open-space needs and prepare for the future.
The plan will address growth, safety, and access to outdoor amenities. Partners seek to conserve open space and connect to broader conservation efforts, while reducing barriers to outdoor recreation. The planning process will work to build connectivity by identifying optimal locations for wayfinding signage placement, aiming to enhance navigation and overall user experience within both new and old neighborhoods, Elizabeth parks and recreation offerings, and Elizabeth School District facilities.
The first step in the planning process is to survey the public about outdoor amenities. Please visit this survey link to share your opinion.
Podcast: Baseball coach succeeds with New Beginnings
Ryan Robinson recently completed his first season as head coach of the Elizabeth High School baseball team. It was a year of New Beginnings that actually started last fall when the team, their families and community members came together to upgrade the home ballfield. It continued into the spring season with improvements to the dugouts.
That commitment to the program led to big strides on the field as well: The Cardinals doubled their win total from last year and cut their earned run average in half.
In this audio interview, Coach Robinson talks about taking over the program, receiving tremendous community support, and seeing his players excel.
