Catholic Education Week: May 6-10th, 2024
Catholic Education Week is held each year in May in our 29 Ontario Catholic School Boards. Catholic Education Week 2024 is scheduled to take place during the week of May 6 – May 10th. It is our pleasure to announce the theme for Catholic Education Week 2024:
We are Called to Love
Appelés à aime
Our spiritual quote for Catholic Education Week 2024 is:
“If we love one another, God lives in us.” 1 John 4:12
Si nous aimons les uns les autres, Dieu demeure en nous. (1 Jean 4, 12)
The five sub-themes for Catholic Education Week are the following:
Monday: As people of hope / Dans l’espérance
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. Romans 15:13
Tuesday: As people of faith / Dans la foi
For in Christ Jesus… the only thing that counts is faith working through love. Galatians 5:6
Wednesday: As people of mercy / Avec compassion
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36
Thursday: As people of justice / Dans la justice
Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God. Micah 6:8
Friday: As people of joy / Dans la joie
Our heart is glad in the Lord, because we trust in his holy name. Psalm 33:21
Catholic Education Week Prayer
God who is love,
Love is our calling, and the goal for which you have made us.
As we celebrate Catholic Education Week,
may our love in action reveal to our world
that we are people of justice and mercy.
May our daily words and example show clearly
that we are people of faith and hope.
In the ways we reflect you daily,
may everyone recognize us as people of joy.
Help us to never forget how much you love us,
and to cherish your life within us,
which gives energy and direction to our loving.
May we hear your call to love generously and inclusively,
and may we call our world to be more loving also.
All of this we ask in the name of Jesus, our Friend and our Lord.
Amen

May: Month of Mary
Sweet and Blessed Mother, guide our mothers that they too may lead us to Your Son, just as you show us. May they imitate Your love and devotion. May we in return also be loving, patient, understanding and supportive to our mothers.
Blessed Mother, we pray for all mothers and those in mothering roles - our own moms, our aunts, our grandmothers... the living and the departed.
Hail Mary, full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations: I am a responsible citizen!
- I am a peace-maker
- I am fair
- I am forgiving
- I follow rules and do my share
- I help the poor and care for people in need
- I stand up for what is right
- I know that all life is precious
- I respect and protect the world and all that is in it
Because I accept my responsibilities, I can make a difference, and I will live my life like Jesus.
Virtue of the Month: Acceptance
During the month of May we will focus on the virtue of Acceptance. God wants us to make friends with everyone no matter how different they may look or act.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, an accepting person...
- Finds meaning, dignity fulfillment and vocation in work which contributes to the common good
- Witnesses Catholic social teaching by promoting equality, democracy, and solidarity for a just, peaceful and compassionate society
- Respects and affirms the diversity and interdependence of the world’s peoples and cultures
- Respects and understands the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today’s contemporary society
Let us now pray...for the virtue of acceptance - the strength to trust that God is at work in everyone’s life despite what we think. AMEN

Give it a Try Week for FDKs: April 29th-May 2nd
During the week of April 29th, our kindergarten students will also have an opportunity to take part in 'Give It a Try Week'. The students will participate in 2 activities of their choice led by our Mental Health Leaders in the Junior and Intermediate Divisions.
New Learning opportunity for our Primary students
The Grade 1’s and 1/2 classes have ordered Painted Lady Butterfly Kits to coincide with and support our Science Unit: Life Systems: the Needs and Characteristics of Living Things.
We will get to witness in our very own classrooms the stages of growth from caterpillar, to chrysalis, to beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!
We look forward to releasing the butterflies and we hope they will take advantage of our St Timothy School Pollinator garden.
Did you know…according to Indigenous Legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.
Thank you to Mrs. Masucci and Ms. Viola for supporting our students in their learning!
MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH!!
Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) theme for this year is “A Call to be Kind,” emphasizing how compassion and kindness can connect one another and make a big difference on mental health.
Compassion is when we are kind and help ourselves and our friends when needed. It is about doing nice things that make everyone feel happy and loved. In the classroom, there are many ways we can share with students how kindness and compassion can support mental health.
Planning Ahead
It's that time of the school year when we begin to think about September of next year! In arriving at the decision regarding placement of your child for the upcoming year, every consideration is given to individual needs. This decision is made in collaboration with all staff who have been directly involved in your child’s education this year. If you feel that there are specific needs which should be addressed in determining the placement of your child, please feel free to put this in writing no later than Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Your request will be considered at our grade promotion meetings. We remind you that teacher requests should not be part of your written submission. However, if there is other information regarding your child’s learning style, or other considerations of which we ought to be aware, please advise us of these facts in your letter. THE LETTER SHOULD ONLY BE A REQUEST THAT ALIGNS TO YOUR CHILD'S SPECIFIC LEARNING NEEDS. As always, if you require further support, please contact administration via the school office.
Are you moving?
If you are already aware that your child(ren) will not be returning to St. Timothy School in September, please notify the office as soon as possible. We will require the name of the new school that your child(ren) are attending so we can transfer their Ontario Student Record to the new school.
Dress Code
Things to consider:
- Clothing must display appropriate and acceptable words and graphics
- Undergarments should not be visible
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, children must wear footwear that is conducive to playing outside with many other children – flip-flops or other shoes that leave the foot largely exposed, are not recommended. These kinds of footwear may make things difficult for your child to participate in active play with their peers and they could be easily injured.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Safety in the Schoolyard
Playground Safety Rules:
* Respect each other by being polite, friendly and co-operative
* Keep hands and feet to yourself
* Allow others to join in your games
* Play fairly and safely
* Play with acceptable toys and equipment
* Respect school property
* Line up quietly when the bell rings
* Avoid conflicts and injuries
* NO standing in the middle or walking through active games
* NO leaving school property
* NO name-calling or making fun of others, using inappropriate language or gestures
* NO fighting, pushing, tripping, lifting, grabbing, body-checking, scratching, pinching, spitting or biting
* NO unsafe or rough games: wrestling, tackling, play fighting
Remember to: THINK before speaking— Is it Thoughtful, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?

A Prayer for Mothers
For new mothers, coming to terms with new responsibility;
For expectant mothers, wondering and waiting
For those who are tired, stressed or depressed;
For those who struggle to balance the tasks of work and family;
For those who are unable to feed their children due to poverty;
For those whose children have physical, mental, or emotional disabilities;
For those who raise children on their own;
For those who have lost a child;
For those who care for the children of others;
For those whose children have left home;
And for those whose desire to be a mother
has not been fulfilled.
Bless all mothers, that their lives may be deep and tender,
And that they may lead their children to know and do what is good,
Living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others
Amen
