Prayer

O, Lord.

Give us the strength to not worry about

things we cannot control.

Guide us in developing a sense of

appreciation.

We look up to you for motivation.

Keep our mind at peace and help us

prevent it from wandering off.

Remind us to chant your name.

Shelter us in your glory.

In Jesus we trust.

Amen.

Celebrating Growth and Achievement

Mid-Year Reports will be made available to parents in Pre-Primary to Year 6 via SEQTA Engage from 3:30pm on Wednesday 1 July. Kindy students receive one formal report at the end of the year.

Reports provide an important snapshot of your child's learning and progress throughout the semester. They celebrate achievements, identify areas for continued growth and help strengthen the partnership between home and school.

As parents read their child's report, I encourage them to remember that every child is uniquely gifted. Some students excel academically, while others shine through their creativity, leadership, kindness, resilience, faith, sporting ability or their willingness to support others. At Queen of Apostles, we value and celebrate the whole child and recognise that success comes in many forms.

While reports provide valuable information about academic achievement, they are only one part of a child's story. We encourage families to celebrate effort, growth and perseverance, as these qualities are often the foundation for future success.

Today I had the pleasure of attending Academic Day alongside a group of our Year 6 students who are involved in our extension program. It was wonderful to see our students challenged, engaged and learning alongside like-minded peers from other schools. Opportunities such as these remind us that every child has unique talents and strengths that deserve to be nurtured and celebrated.

Thank you for your continued support of your child's learning journey. We are proud of the progress our students have made this semester and look forward to continuing to work together in Semester Two.

Principal

Car Park Safety Reminder Car Park Safety Reminder

The safety of our students is always our highest priority. We would like to remind parents and caregivers that children should not be left unattended in vehicles when adults enter the school grounds for meetings, appointments or any other reason.

Recently, staff observed students attempting to move between vehicles in the car park while a parent was away from their vehicle. Situations such as these create significant safety risks for all members of our community.

Parents are responsible for supervising their children before and after school. If you need to come into the school, please ensure your children accompany you or remain under the supervision of a responsible adult.

We also ask all families to exercise caution in the car park, follow designated traffic flow procedures and remind children to walk safely at all times.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone at Queen of Apostles.

Understanding Mid-Year Reports

As we approach the release of Semester One reports, parents will notice some differences in the way student achievement is reported compared to previous years.

These changes are part of a broader transition occurring across Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) schools as we align with the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline and the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).

At the heart of these changes is a commitment to providing parents with clearer and more accurate information about how their child is progressing against year-level expectations. The revised reporting approach aims to strengthen consistency across schools and ensure that reporting is closely aligned with curriculum standards and evidence of student learning.

While changes to reporting can sometimes feel unfamiliar, our goal remains unchanged: to provide meaningful information that supports student growth and helps parents understand their child's progress, strengths and next steps in learning.

It is important to remember that reports form just one part of the communication between home and school. Parent-teacher interviews, learning conversations, classroom communication and ongoing feedback throughout the year continue to play an important role in building a complete picture of each child's learning journey.

We encourage parents to take the opportunity to discuss their child's report with their classroom teacher if they would like further clarification or information regarding achievement, effort or future learning goals.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child's learning and development.

Catholics encouraged to identify themselves in the Census

MEDIA RELEASE JUNE 15, 2026

On August 11, Australia will hold its five‐yearly national Census.

The Census of Population and Housing, conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS),

is a β€œcomprehensive snapshot” that reveals the changing economic, social and cultural

demographics of the nation.

Religious identification is a basic variable used in socio-demographic research.

A question on a person’s religion has been included in all Australian Censuses, along with

questions of country of birth and language spoken at home, because it is an important part of a

person’s identity and an indicator of Australia’s cultural diversity.

Answering this question has always been optional. Despite this, it has had a high response rate

(93% in 2021), with 5,075,910 people describing themselves as Catholic, or 20 per cent of the

Australian population.

National Centre for Pastoral Research (NCPR) director Trudy Dantis said data from the religion

question was crucial to helping Catholic parishes, schools, dioceses and organisations

understand their communities and plan for ministry and mission.

β€œCensus data tells us a great deal about the demographics of self-identifying Catholics in

particular regions, and for this reason, it is invaluable to pastoral planning,” Dr Dantis said.

β€œIt is also an important aspect of planning for our Catholic organisations, since many

Australians seek assistance from these institutions in times of personal crisis, and for services

such as schools, health care facilities and welfare.”

The NCPR and its forerunners have been acquiring and analysing Census data from the ABS

since the 1991 Census, making reports available to the Catholic community at national,

diocesan and parish level (https://ncpr.catholic.org.au/national-catholic-census-project/)

Census data on religion does not reveal whether a person believes in God, goes to church, or

even whether they are a member of a religious organisation, because it is not designed for this

purpose.

In recent times, some groups in Australia have tried to encourage people not to identify with a religion unless they are actively practising, inviting them to tick the β€œNo Religion” box instead.

However, research shows that many non-practising Catholics continue to identify as Catholic because it remains an important part of who they are.

Dr Dantis encouraged all Catholics to tick the β€œCatholic” box this year, while noting that some may need to identify in a slightly different manner.

β€œWhile the religion question provides tick‐box response categories for the major religious groups, the ABS also makes provision for counting members of religious groups with small populations. This option is extremely important for our Eastern Rite dioceses so that they can obtain more accurate demographic statistics about their own individual communities,” she said.

β€œCatholics from the Syro-Malabar, Chaldean, Ukrainian, Melkite and Maronite communities are therefore encouraged to choose the β€˜Other’ option and write in the name of their religious group instead, for example, β€˜Ukrainian Catholic’.

β€œThis will ensure that they are counted correctly within their own community, rather than assuming them to be Latin Rite Catholics.”

Questions about Catholics in the Census can be directed to the National Centre for Pastoral Research by emailing ncpr@catholic.org.au.

What Can we do to Anchor Children in the Faith?

1. Faith needs to be seen as a source of joy, emotional safety, and connection. Kids who experience their family's faith as a source of warmth and comfort are far more likely to embrace it. In addition to attending Mass, weave faith into normal life. This includes brief morning or bedtime prayers, including short passages from the scriptures, daily blessings, and saying grace before meals.

2. Children are most likely to retain faith when they see their parents actively living it out and showing genuine enthusiasm for their beliefs, and when they give witness to authentic prayer and vulnerable conversations about God at home. Households that discuss religious beliefs and values several times a week are twice as likely to have children who pray daily and retain their faith as young adults. Encourage children to ask existential questions and express doubts without judgment. Using tools like a question jar helps process spiritual thoughts in a safe, interactive way.

3. Children want to understand how their faith practically applies to the struggles of growing up.

4. Children need a deeply connected home where faith is experienced as a source of warmth and security. Establish weekly, uninterrupted family traditionsβ€”such as a dedicated family dinner, a day of rest, or regular volunteer activitiesβ€”to make the weekend feel restorative and spiritually grounded.

5. The single greatest predictor of retained faith into adulthood is the warmth and quality of the parent-child relationship. Research highlights a strong correlation between a healthy, stable marriage and a child's likelihood to stay religious.

6. Successful families integrate faith into everyday family life through consistent, intentional relationship-building practices.

7. Serve Others Together: Families who practice compassion by volunteering, helping neighbours, or participating in charity together instil core religious values into their children's worldview.

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
