A Message From the Principal
Dear Mountain Vista Families,
As we head into winter break, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of our students and staff during the first half of the school year. The growth we have seen academically, socially, and emotionally is a direct reflection of the care, effort, and dedication happening in classrooms every single day. Our students have worked hard, taken risks, and supported one another, and our staff continues to go above and beyond to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
Students have also recently completed their mid year STAR assessment. Caregivers will receive the STAR Student Report via PowerSchool Document Storage beginning the week of January 12, 2026. Please be on the lookout for an email with directions on how to access your child’s report.
We wish all of our Mountain Vista families a truly well deserved break filled with rest, time with family and friends, and lots of memory making. As part of Mr. Berge’s Students v. Teachers reading challenge, we encourage students to keep reading over the break and continue building strong reading habits at home.
When we return to school, we will hit the ground running. We will take time to review routines and expectations and then dive right back into learning as we continue building on the strong progress already made this year. We are excited for what lies ahead and grateful to partner with you in this journey.
Warmly,
Megan Carkhuff
Principal

WINTER BREAK READING CHALLENGE: STUDENTS vs. TEACHERS
To encourage your children to read each day during Winter Break the Mountain Vista faculty and staff are challenging them to see who can read more pages (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) or more minutes (Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades) from December 20 to January 5--students? or teachers and staff?
A calendar for tracking the number of pages or minutes recently came home. Please encourage your children to (1) read every day, (2) record the number of pages read or minutes spent reading, and (3) turn in their calendars the first few days back after Winter Break.
Please also include the pages or minutes that you spend reading to, or with your children, especially for younger children (Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades).
Thank you!
