A message from your principal/Un mensaje de su directora

Dear Stonewall-Flanders Community,

According to the Red Ribbon campaign, Red Ribbon week is instituted each year in order to encourage students to be “happy, brave and drug free.” Now more than ever, we need to encourage our kids to pursue healthy, productive, and sustainable interests that will grow their minds and build their character. Hobbies and activities such as reading, journaling, cooking, playing a sport, even participating in volunteer work, are all low-cost to no-cost ways in which students can fill their minds, and their time, with worthwhile pursuits. Also according to the Red Ribbon website, spending quality family time, such as sitting down to eat dinner together, helps build healthy habits and traditions, which in turn help support not just physical, but socio-emotional wellness, for strong, healthy, resilient kids. Life is busy, but choosing just one day a week to commit to eating a meal together can make a difference. Which day will you choose in your family?

Go Falcons!

¡Vamos Halcones!

Fall Festival Update/Festival de otono, actualizacion

Due to multiple carnivals going on during the evening of November 15, and of course how this affects the availability of booths, we have reverted to our Fall Festival date of Thursday, November 21. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but look forward to seeing everyone there, and having a wonderful night of family and community fellowship. This fun filled event will include costumes, music and dancing and carnival games. It will be centered around our theme for the year “Stronger Together.” Our students will have the opportunity to dress up as characters, fictional or historical, who have been an example of working as a team, or being stronger together. Teachers are having conversations with our students regarding the theme as well as costume ideas. Be on the lookout for our flier with more information, coming out very soon!

As you may remember from previous newsletters, our PreK dismissal was moved to a different location with the safety of students as the foremost priority. In order to transport little ones, either by foot or by car, we needed a space that allowed more room for parent pick ups. This was accomplished by moving them to the K-1 hallway, as the space out in front of that hallway is much more ample. The “kink” we’re still working on is in regards to the flow of traffic. We remind everyone that, if you have a PK card, please join the innermost line of cars along the curb in front of the school. This allows us to put your PreKer straight into your vehicle and minimize having to cross lanes to bring your little one to your car. Be sure to display your car tag visibly on your dashboard so that Officer Murad can see it clearly from far away and can better direct your vehicle to the appropriate car lane. Also, please watch for our staff along the curb as they direct you to move up as far as possible. This will allow us to line up and load at least 4 cars of PreKers at a time in order to expedite this process and still be safe. Finally, we ask for everyone’s patience. Student safety is our number one priority. Working as efficiently as we can to load students swiftly is our second goal. We thank you kindly for your cooperation in our efforts to keep students safe and get everyone on their way as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and cooperation during dismissal as we prioritize student safety. As you approach the school, for your safety and the safety of others, please remain in your vehicle, and a staff member will walk your child to your car. Please do not stop your vehicle while in the car lane, as we must keep a continuous flow of traffic moving forward. Please refrain from parking and walking up to the building, as the increased amount of foot traffic at the front of the school contributes to a congested and unsafe environment for our students and staff at dismissal.
