2026 Schools of Character
The Troy School District is pleased to share and celebrate the recent Schools of Character recognitions awarded by Character.org. These honors reflect a sustained commitment across our district to building strong school cultures grounded in intentional character development.
The following Troy schools were recognized:
National Schools of Character
- Hamilton Elementary School
- Troy Union Elementary School
State Schools of Character
- Schroeder Elementary School
- Boulan Park Middle School
- Troy Union Elementary School
Honorable Mention
Wattles Elementary School
Barnard Elementary School
Each of these designations represents significant effort and collaboration among staff, students, and families. Whether receiving National, State, or Honorable Mention recognition, the application and review process is rigorous and meaningful, requiring schools to examine their practices honestly and align them with Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools.
We want to acknowledge and thank our building leaders and school teams for their dedication to this work. The time, care, and intentionality invested in cultivating positive learning communities and these recognitions affirm the impact of their collective efforts.
Oakland County Enhancement Millage - Fast Facts
Following Proposal A in 1994, in Oakland County, school funding is largely provided by the state. Each district receives a certain amount per student and that funding is used to build annual budgets. A regional enhancement millage is the only mechanism available to increase per-student funding.
On August 4, voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on the Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage.
Key facts:
The proposal calls for a 1.50 mill levy on all taxpayers for a period of six years (2026–2031).
Funds would be distributed on a per-student basis to all public school districts and eligible public school academies.
Each school board would determine how funds are used.

Spring Security Update: Walk or Bike Safely
With the arrival of spring, many students may choose to walk or bike to school more often. This is a great time to review a few simple safety practices that help keep everyone safe on their daily commute:
• Stay Alert: Please remind students to avoid using phones while walking or biking and to stay aware of their surroundings, including at bus stops.
• Choose Safe Routes: Take a moment to review the safest path to school with your child, using sidewalks, marked crosswalks, and pedestrian signals whenever possible.
• Arrive and Wait Safely: Students should plan to arrive at their bus stop a few minutes early and wait in a safe area away from the curb.
• Follow Traffic Rules: Drivers are reminded to slow down in school zones, follow all school traffic procedures, and never pass a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended and red lights flashing.
• Use the Buddy System: When possible, encourage your child to walk, bike, or wait at the bus stop with a friend or sibling.
• Report Concerns: If you or your child notice any unsafe conditions or suspicious activity along their route, please report it to the school or Troy Police.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students this spring.
