Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
February 24, 2023
It was a short, but packed week at Lutherville Lab. This week was the highlight of our Black History Month celebration. Our students continued to present their research to one another on the morning announcements, as they have throughout the month. All of our students enjoyed a Black History Month assembly on Thursday. Our intermediate students traveled to Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts to attend their Black History Month performance with their very talented performers. And our primary students enjoyed Art's for Learning Maryland's "Blacktastic! A Children's Festival of Maryland Black History and Culture."
Tonight we're excited to enjoy Hula for Hopkins! It should be a fun evening with a special guest (Ms. Washart!). We'll be partying in the gym from 6-8pm. Bring cash for snacks and cash/checks/Venmo for silent auction items. All proceeds go to Kids Helping Hopkins and the John's Hopkins Children's Hospital.
Have a fabulous weekend!
-Mr. McComb

BCPS Stakeholder Survey!
Team BCPS students in Grades 3-12, parents/caregivers, staff, and community members are invited to participate in the school system’s annual Stakeholder Climate Survey. The brief online survey will be available on the BCPS home page through Friday, March 3, 2023.
The survey is available in multiple languages for students, parents, and community members. This annual survey is an important way for us to listen to you, the BCPS community, learn your views, and be responsive to your feedback by taking action to improve our schools and school system. Survey feedback is used by our schools to refine School Progress Plans as well as by the system to measure progress toward goals in The Compass strategic plan.
The views of respondents will help to shape our budget, our staffing, and our programs. We hope all members of Team BCPS will participate in this important annual survey - we want to hear from you! Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration on behalf of our incredible students and staff.
Haiku Writing Contest
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. BCPS is only seeking 17 syllables.
For the BCPS 2023 Haiku Contest, each student is invited to choose from among 10 pieces of student artwork and to write a haiku inspired by that artwork. (Below are only partial images of each artwork.) Entries for the annual BCPS Haiku Poetry Contest will be accepted from 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, through 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 2.
All haiku must be original and must be submitted using the online 2023 Haiku Contest Form. Winning haiku will be chosen at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Winners will be announced on Monday, April 17, International Haiku Poetry Day, and will receive prizes.
As in prior years, the winning poems and additional selected haiku will be compiled into an online book with student artwork. Each school library will receive a print copy.
