Principal's Message:

Welcome to another exciting week at WIS! We have several important announcements, including details about our biggest fundraiser of the year and important upcoming Friday events.

WIS Read-a-Thon Fundraiser (September 11–21) Our annual Read-a-Thon kicks off September 11! As our primary fundraiser, 95% of proceeds go directly to the WIS PTO to support our students. You can support your reader by visiting 99pledges.com/fund/2026readWIS, searching for your student, and sharing their page for flat or per-minute pledges. Students can log their reading time from September 11 to 21 using our Minute Tracker Form to win class parties, prize cart rewards, a ride on the Grizzly Pedal Bike, and all-school dress-up days!

Lunchroom Microwave Policy: Due to the volume of students who may want to use the lunchroom microwave, we ask that students bring only meals that take 1 minute or less to warm up. This simple step helps ensure that all students who need to heat their food have enough time to do so during lunch.

PTO Meeting Please join us for our next PTO meeting this Thursday at 9:30 AM. We encourage all parents to attend, connect, and hear about upcoming plans for our school community.

Patriot Day Ceremony This Friday morning, we will hold a short ceremony first thing to observe Patriot Day together as a school.

Picture Day Friday is also Picture Day! Please review the flyer and ordering details sent home with your student so they are ready for the camera.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making this school year wonderful!

Warmly,

Brandon Cobb, Principal

Accessories & Belongings:

  • Leave at Home: Please do not bring stuffed animals, toys, or masks to school.

  • Store in Lockers: Purses, hats, bookbags, cell phones, and smartwatches must be stored in the student's locker.

  • Hoods: Hoods on hoodies and jackets must remain down while inside the school building.

Character Strong

We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.

This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.

One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself! To learn more about CharacterStrong, check out characterstrong.com to discover other resources for students and families.

Encore Schedule for September

Below is a calendar that shows our five-day rotation for encores. Students should know what encore (PE, Music/Band, Technology, Art, or Library) they have each day, so this calendar is to help families plan.

Contacting Our Attendance Desk

Our attendance clerk, Mrs. Long, is the contact person for calling off your student and any change of dismissal plans throughout the day. Please call the Attendance Line to reach her and leave a message. The phone number to her desk is 330-335-1481. We recommend you let the attendance desk/teacher know when your student will be absent, leaving early, or arriving late. Letting us know when your child will leave early allows us to be prepared for when you arrive. We ask that all end-of-the-day dismissal plans be made by 2:45 p.m. Thank you for your efforts!

**REMINDER- Mr. Cobb must approve all vacations AHEAD OF TIME. Please send him an email requesting excused absences. bcobb@wadsworthschools.org
