OLHMS Update (4/22/25)
Today is Earth Day!
Tuesday's Top of the Mind
Did you know that we acknowledged our scholars for this hard work and efforts?
We proudly celebrated our scholars for their dedicated efforts and resiliency with our most recent state assessments. We acknowledged our scholars during the assessments with raffle tickets for showing pride in their work, using their time wisely and ensuring they were fully present.
Did you know this week is the D123 Art Show?
District 123’s students’ artistic accomplishments will be showcased
on Thursday, April 24th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The (K-5) Elementary Level students’ artwork will be located in the main gym, while the (6-8) Middle School students’ artwork will be displayed in the library. This is a special event to celebrate D123’s students’ artistic talents and creative accomplishments! We would love for you to attend to see the amazing talents of our students.
Did you know that our scholars will be completing over 5,400 hours of service this Friday?
This day unites our scholars in aiding our community and schools through various activities. It provides each scholar with the chance to contribute, support our community, and acquire crucial life skills and insights. This beautiful day is organized behind masterful coordination by Mrs. Omiecinski.
Did you know our scholars are piloting a drone program?
Check out this article to learn more about a pilot program our 8th-grade scholars are navigating thanks to an amazing donation from a community member, Dr. Gasteyer and our D123 Ed. Foundation!
Did you know that our Annual iFest was another huge success?
This incredible day of learning and event brought students and staff together to celebrate, explore, and embrace the diverse cultures and traditions that make up our school community. Check out this Special Newsletter commemorating the event. Thank you to everyone who made this day unforgettable! Together, we celebrate our differences, build connections, and create a stronger, more inclusive community.
Reminders and Updates
Mustang Families,
We hope you enjoyed the extended weekend celebrating the D123 Board-Declared Holiday for Easter. As we return, there will be an exciting energy in the building as we head into the final stretch of this successful 2024–2025 school year!
This week is filled with meaningful learning and community connection. Today, is Earth Day and our scholars will be getting prepared and focused on environmental responsibility and sustainability looking ahead to Service Day. This learning will build momentum for one of our favorite OLHMS traditions—Service Day, happening this Friday! It’s a powerful opportunity for our students to give back and show Mustang pride through hands-on service projects that support our school and community.
We’re also thrilled to be visiting all of our 5th-grade classrooms this week as we welcome our soon-to-be Mustangs! These visits are a great way to build excitement and help ease the transition into middle school. We can’t wait for them to experience the supportive and spirited environment that makes OLHMS such a special place.
As we continue through testing season and look ahead to events like the D123 Art Fest, 5th-grade transition visits/ tours, and the Variety Show, we’re filled with pride and anticipation. Thank you for your continued support and partnership—it truly makes all the difference.
Let’s keep the momentum going and finish the year strong!

SELECT 123: The application deadline has now passed for this year's prestigious alumni group. Congratulations to 70 applicants! This year's class will be announced in May!
We do expect and desire to have 100% of our scholars earn the opportunity to walk the stage with their graduating 2025 Class. We have been and will continue to communicate with families if any scholar is in jeopardy of this opportunity.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Mustang families we need your support!
We need all families dropping off or picking up our scholars to be more responsible, respectful and safe. Recently, we have seen too many cars driving too fast during drop off and pick up. We have also seen cars passing and driving around other cars way too close to students- please be patient, cautious and courteous. Remember was are all modeling our Mustang Musts! The same can be said while buses are loading and unloading. Please pull all the way up in the circle drive before dropping off. This will help the traffic flow.
As a reminder, families should not be using the main entrance parking lot to drop off or pick up between 8:15-8:45 am and 3:15-3:45 pm while the buses are present.
Cologne and Perfume
We’re glad to see our scholars taking pride in their hygiene and personal care! However, the use of cologne and perfume has become overwhelming at times and is occasionally being applied inappropriately during the school day. To ensure a comfortable learning environment for everyone, we kindly ask that students leave their scented products at home.
Please take a moment to discuss with your child the proper use and appropriate amounts of fragrance. While we appreciate the effort to smell nice, excessive scents can be distracting and overpowering in shared spaces. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a pleasant and respectful atmosphere for all!
Student Lunch Deliveries
We want to remind families that OLHMS does not allow student lunch deliveries from outside services (such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or other vendors). This practice minimizes disruptions and contributes to a safe and structured lunch experience for all students.
Bus Transportation
Bus Behavior: Please remind bus riders that we must be following our Mustang Musts. We have been hearing about challenging, inappropriate and unsafe behavior on the bus riders to and from school. We do have the ability to request bus video footage. Students will be given consequences for their behavior which may include a suspension from the bus.
Bus Loading and Unloading: Families should not be passing buses in our parking lot. This is dangerous and almost caused an accident. Do not pass buses with their stop sign extended.
