IMPORTANT!

If you have missed any of the phone calls regarding delays or closures, please call the office and let them know. We upgraded to a new system that works best with a cell phone as the primary contact number, so we may need to adjust that in our system so you can stay up to date!

In addition to sending out calls and texts on delays, we also send a notification through our app! There are instructions on how to download the app near the bottom of the newsletter. It's a great way to stay informed!

Updates from Mr. Fillwock

November brought many exciting opportunities for our young huskies to continue Learning Under Construction.

As we move into colder weather please remember to send your students with snow pants, hats, gloves, boots and winter coat to help make recess time more enjoyable. We will be going outside if the temperature is over 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Please continue to use our pick up process after school using the service drive off McClelland Road. Thank you for your patience and understanding to keep everyone safe especially with winter weather coming.

Wednesdays throughout this year we have been celebrating wonderful work with our Wall of Wonderful Work. Each Wednesday students are chosen by their teacher for their work to be displayed for the week. Photos of those students below! Congrats!

STEM Lighthouses

Mrs. Wolfgang's STEM classes each researched a Michigan lighthouse and put together a presentation on it. They also learned basic circuitry so they could create a circuit with a batter pack, Christmas light, and a switch to turn their light on and off. They took a lot of pride in this project and it turned out great! The lighthouses are displayed in the Media Center!

NHS Updates

The National Honor Society has been busy this month with planning and hosting events. On November 9th, we had our annual blood drive through Versiti Blood Center of Michigan who took 20 usable units of blood that will save 60 lives!

The NHS is also planning to partner with the Salvation Army to gather toys for this holiday season, all of which will stay within Gratiot County! If you are interested in donating, there will be a box, to put all unwrapped toys, at the boys basketball game against St. Louis on December 7th, starting at 6pm. This will also be your admission into the game! There will also be a competition between the grades to see who can get the most toys collected. The winner of the Middle School Classes and High School Classes will celebrate with a doughnut and chocolate milk party!

Varsity Volleyball

Congratulations to Kya Horman & Kara Whiting for making 1st team All-Conference, Katie Steinhaus & Morgan Westall for making 2nd team All-Conference, and Miranda Rohde on an honorable mention!

Varsity Cross Country State Finals

Varsity Girls Cross Country sent 4 individual runners to state finals this year: Avery Westall, Megan Goward, Nataly Vine, and Tori Most (who shaved 23 seconds off her PR!) The girls have put in the work this year, and hopefully next year they can advance to state finals as a team!

The Varsity Boys were regional champions for the third straight year, making it to state finals as a team. They finished only 3 points away from 3rd place. This marks the boys' fourth straight year finishing in the top 4 at state finals - a strong start to a dynasty that will hopefully continue for years to come. Their 4th place finish marked the end of an incredibly tough season, losing a cherished team mate, Trent Carter, at the beginning of the season.

Mason Sumner was the only All-stater, earning this honor all 4 seasons of Varsity Cross Country - which is a feat and something to be proud of!

Congratulations to the cross country teams on an outstanding year!

And as Coach Gulick says, "Bring It and DOMINATE!!!"

BOND UPDATE BOND UPDATE

As the calendar turns the page to December, we are continuing to move forward with construction and bond work. Bids for work on the Middle School and High School and Athletic areas will be opened on December 1st. These bids will be approved at the December Regular Board Meeting.

Work on updating open classrooms in the High School will begin in January and February of 2022. New flooring, lighting, ceilings, cabinetry, whiteboards, and projectors will round out the upgrades. The goal will be to have approximately 14 classrooms completed by the end of this school year.

The High School gymnasium's occupancy has been approved from the HVAC work that was taking place. This means that we are all set for games and indoor activities for the winter months. We look forward to welcoming parents and community members to home basketball games this winter.

The elementary work continues. Underground plumbing has been completed. Over the next few weeks we will see exterior walls going up and electrical work beginning.

Please check back each month for bond and construction updates. Have a Happy and Blessed Christmas season and Go Huskies!

Keep the Huskies Healthy!

If your student stays home from school sick, or leaves school early, please keep them home until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours.

If your student is a close contact of someone at school who has tested positive for Covid, we recommend that the student stays home for 10 days. If they stay home for 10 days, they cannot return until after the 10 days or with a negative Covid test result and no symptoms.

If your student is a close contact of someone at school and has no symptoms, they may remain in school as long as they remain symptom free.

If your student is named as a contact and verbalizes or demonstrates any symptoms at school, they will be sent home for 10 days or until a negative COVID test result has been received.
