Welcome Mr. Wil Meiners- Secondary Math
Wil Meiners comes to PCSVA by way of the Kenyan bush country, the Castle in the Clouds, one of the short-lived capitals of the United States, and the mountains of western NC, among other places. He brings with him 25 years of experience working with young people in youth ministry, coaching, and teaching Social Studies, Bible classes, Math, and Life Skills. He has taught in NC public schools for the past 18 years, virtually for six of those years in a variety of capacities. Mr. Meiners enjoys meeting new students each semester, reconnecting with previous students, and together building an excitement about learning new things and using what we already know to better make sense of the amazing world around us. Mr. Meiners joins class each day from his office in the barn where he can look out the window and see ponies and goats on the small farm where he lives with his wife, two daughters, and some extended family. When he's not teaching, he enjoys all sorts of outdoor activities, singing on the music team at church with his family, cooking and eating good food, and all sorts of farm projects. Mr. Meiners is thrilled to join PCSVA in fostering a passion for learning!
CACRAO College Fair- Wednesday, September 24, 10:30–11:00 a.m
Students in 11th and 12th grades are invited to attend the upcoming CACRAO College Fair on Wednesday, September 24th, from 10:30–11:00 a.m. We kindly ask that you plan to arrive by 10:25 to allow time for parking and entry.
The event will be held in the main gym at Person High School, with entry available directly through the gym entrance. Please note that student parking will be very limited due to the large number of admissions representatives joining us that day.
To help your students make the most of the event, I’ve included a link to the current list of participating colleges and universities, as well as the StriveScan QR code for student registration. This barcode will allow admissions representatives to easily scan their contact information, saving time and eliminating the need for written forms. Students may also register directly at strivefair.com.

PCS Attendance Initiative Every Minute Counts!
Every Minute Counts! Attendance matters now more than ever. Chronic absenteeism—missing 10% or more of the school year, regardless of the reason—puts students at academic and social risk. Research shows that even in early grades, frequent absences can make it hard to read on grade level, stay engaged, and ultimately graduate on time.
Our district, like many others nationwide, has seen an increase in chronic absences since the pandemic. As partners in education, we ask families to help us prioritize attendance by scheduling appointments outside of school hours, keeping routines consistent, and reaching out when challenges arise.
Together, we can ensure every child is present, supported, and ready to succeed—because every minute truly counts.

Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. Courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
