**Reminder there is NO SCHOOL on FEBRUARY 13th & 14th!**

Full Calendar

Dates to Save

This document is a good resource for trying to plan ahead. We are plugging in SHS dates and events as we hear of them. This is subject to change, but want to keep you all in the loop.

Principal's Update Principal's Update

Continuous Improvement Plan

Before the school year starts, each school assembles a Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) Team to assess their school's data. This includes reviewing attendance, grade performance, behavior, and student and family perception surveys. The team then sets goals to focus on for the upcoming school year, and creates an action plan.

Our Continuous Improvement Goal, while specifically focused on Math achievement, actually helps to drive our work in all content areas. Teachers are working to build thinking classrooms of engaged learners where students collaborate to answer complex problems that require critical thinking.

Semester 1 Report Cards

Report Cards will be emailed via secure messenger tomorrow, February 7. For information on Standards Based Grading and the Superior High School Conversion Table, visit our District Website here.

Culvers - Feb 24th

Culvers in Superior will give a portion of their sales on February 24th from 5-8pm to the SHS All Night Grad Party

Last night we hosted a Mental Health and Resiliency Building free family event. We had the SHS Hope Squad and Interact Club, a variety of expert community resources, and guest speaker Randy Barker from the UWS Pruitt Center. Thank you to the Superior Rotary Club for helping us make this valuable experience possible. We often think about being Spartan strong by hitting the weight room, but gaining the tools for mental toughness is key too! Find more about the Pruitt Center and it's programs here.

PBIS at SHS

PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) is a system that focuses on reinforcing positive behavior by providing clear expectations to students and teaching them what those expectations look like in action. PBIS provides meaningful incentives for students when they are showing expected behavior and provides reteaching to students who may need more support in understanding how to show expected behavior throughout the building.

Our three core beliefs are work, respect, and belong. We have conversations about these values throughout our building. We explain what it looks like to work, respect, and belong as a student in each area of our school and encourage students to show work, respect, and belong by creating incentives. Based off of student data, we are still needed to continue to focus on attendance (kids in seats on time every day). Staff are encouraged to award students with a Spartan ticket, which they can turn in for various incentives. How can you help support our efforts? We are looking for prizes, gift cards, or experiences that will get our students excited. Any donations can be turned into the main office to the attention of Matt Amerson. We have also created this Amazon Wishlist. Another way to support is to shop the Spartan Shack online for gear we can use toward prizes. Our students love Spartan swag!

Northwood Tech Event

Northwood Tech will be hosting an event on March 6th from 10:30AM-12:30PM for undecided high school seniors! This event will provide seniors the opportunity to visit Northwood Tech, tour the program classes/labs, and receive direct assistance in the application and admissions process!

After touring the college and lab areas, seniors will be offered a "lunch and learn" opportunity, where we will go over the admissions process and enrolling in a program for Fall 2025. Many programs still have spots available for seniors to start right away! For popular programs, we will go over the waitlist process.

This event gives students a "one-stop shop" opportunity to see the campus, apply for a program, schedule their admissions meeting, and learn about scholarships/financial aid. Attendees will receive swag bags, lunch, and a chance to use our VR training goggles.

As a reminder, applications are free at Northwood Tech, so we encourage any undecided seniors to attend even if they are unsure if they want to apply yet.

Registration is required for this event. Students can register HERE

Harvard Model UN - Boston Trip

16 Superior High School students traveled to Boston for five days to explore the city's history, have some fun, and most importantly, serve as delegates representing the interests of the Republic of Congo in ten different committees and as members of the Press Corps and 1966 Disney Board of Directors at Harvard Model United Nations. Our students joined 3500 others from over 200 schools and more than 60 countries to participate in seven sessions of international relations work (each a minimum of three hours long), hoping to resolve the world's most pressing issues. In addition to lessons on current and historical events, procedure, and public discourse, students learn history, interpersonal skills, crisis management, impromptu speaking and writing, and improve their organization and leadership abilities. They build connections with people from around the world and discover new things about themselves. There is truly nothing else quite like model UN! Advisors Keith Johnson and Rachael Holden-Kaufman would like to recognize the students for their commitment to research, planning, and engagement and wish to extend gratitude to four-year HMUN team member Mallory Allen for her hard work and dedication to our activity as well as her outstanding leadership over the years.
