Support Tackle Kids Cancer and Help Children Battling Cancer
Hawthorne Elementary Kids Can Help Tackle Kids Cancer!
Former Roughrider Ella Alberta and Hawthorne High School are running a Go Gold Campaign to support Tackle Kids Cancer. This year, Ella wanted to include our Hawthorne elementary students in the campaign as well.
Students are invited to create a card or picture for a pediatric cancer patient at Hackensack Hospital. Every student who participates will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a custom-made bear created by our very own Ms. Gwen!
Students have until Wednesday, September 23rd to submit their cards or pictures. Ella will then pull the winning raffle ticket at the Go Gold/Senior Night Football Game on Friday, September 25th.
Thank you in advance for your help and for encouraging our students to participate in such a wonderful cause.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
We remember September 11, 2001, and honor the heroes who showed incredible courage, kindness, and selflessness.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, first responders, military members, and everyday people who helped others when they needed it most.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
Celebrating an Inspiring Roughrider
Roosevelt School 3rd grader, Lucas Kardan, was recently honored as a New Jersey Hall of Fame Everyday Hero for his extraordinary resilience, perseverance, and determination. He received this award as a result of his love of learning, passion for music, advocacy for accessibility, and kindness toward others. Even more impressive, Lucas will be permanently featured in the New Jersey Hall of Fame’s Everyday Heroes display at American Dream in East Rutherford! Roosevelt School is so proud of the example Lucas sets every day!
Crunching the Numbers: Place Value in Action!
How many Cheerios are in a box? The fourth-grade classes practiced place value relationships by counting them! We learned that it’s much easier to group them into 10s, 100s, and 1,000s.(By the way, all of the boxes had more than 3,000 Cheerios! )

Washington School Is Kicking Off a Great Year!
The school year is off to a fantastic start at Washington School! Our Wildcats have jumped right into learning, creating, collaborating, and building new friendships. There is already so much excitement and positive energy throughout our classrooms and hallways. We can’t wait to see all that our students will accomplish this year! 💙🐾
Thank you Lincoln Middle School Students!
Lincoln Middle School students made flowers for some of our Washington School students to let us know they are thinking about us. Inside each flower was a message of encouragement written to remind our students how special they are! It made their day! Here is Mrs. Rowe's class with their flowers!

🌸 A Little Kindness Blooms at LMS!
Last year, one of our LMS Den Days focused on spreading kindness through creativity. Students were challenged to create an origami heart that transformed into a beautiful flower, with each flower containing a positive affirmation written by an LMS student.
While the project didn’t quite go as planned and we didn’t have enough completed flowers to reach every elementary student, we are excited that our students’ efforts will still make a difference!
This year, every 2nd and 3rd grade student will receive one of these special flowers as they begin the new school year. Each flower carries a simple message of encouragement from an LMS student—a reminder that kindness can take root, grow, and bloom in unexpected ways.
What started as a Den Day activity has now become a wonderful opportunity for our LMS Bears to share positivity with our younger students. A little kindness goes a long way! 🌸💙
Bounty or Viva?
Mrs. Donatello’s 6th grade science students put their scientific skills to the test in the science lab! Students investigated an important question: Which paper towel is the most absorbent—Bounty or Viva? Is the commercials claim that their brand is 50% more than leading brands true?
Working like real scientists, students made predictions, identified variables, conducted hands-on tests, collected data, and compared their results. Through this engaging investigation, students learned that science is all about asking questions, testing ideas, analyzing evidence, and drawing conclusions!
Explore, Connect, Belong: Clubs at LMS
This year, LMS is excited to offer an incredible variety of clubs, including some new opportunities and some past favorites that students look forward to each year!
From creativity and the arts to athletics, academics, technology, service, and personal wellness, there truly is something for everyone at LMS. Our diverse club offerings allow students to explore their passions, try something new, and connect with classmates who share similar interests.
This year’s clubs include:
📚 Yearbook Club
💙 Kindness Club
🧱 Lego Club
🏐 Volleyball Club
🌎 Multicultural Club

🎨 Crafting Club
🧠 Mental Health & Wellness Club
✏️ Fine Arts Drawing Club
🌟 Rise Above Club
🏀 Sports Debate Club

📝 Literary Magazine Club
Whether a student wants to create, compete, learn, lead, serve, or simply try something completely new, our clubs provide another way for students to Make Every Moment Count at LMS.
We are grateful to the dedicated LMS staff members who give their time and energy to make these opportunities possible. There is always something happening at Lincoln Middle School—and there is always a place for every Bear to belong!

Unlocking the Mind in History of Human Behavior
In Mr. Harty’s History of Human Behavior class, students recently stepped into the shoes of psychologists during an interactive Perspective Gallery Walk. To deepen their understanding of what drives human action, students explored six foundational lenses of the discipline: biological, evolutionary, behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, and humanistic psychology. By analyzing real-world scenarios across interactive stations, students compared how genetics, subconscious drives, thought patterns, and environmental rewards shape who we are. It was an engaging, student-led deep dive into the complexities of the human mind!
What’s Flowing Through AP Environmental Science?
Mr. Crimmel shared, "Our AP Environmental Science students recently stepped out of the classroom and onto the pavement for a hands-on field investigation: mapping the storm drains surrounding our school campus. While storm drains are an everyday part of our urban landscape, they play a critical role in local hydrology and environmental health. Through this activity, students moved beyond the textbook to analyze the direct line between human infrastructure and natural aquatic ecosystems."
Precision & Paper: Connecting Art and Mathematics
Ms. Pasquale shared, "Mrs. Russo diligently prepares for her next Art class with an engaging origami construction project. In addition to encouraging creativity and careful craftsmanship, the activity incorporates important mathematical concepts, including angle construction and the precise folds needed to create geometric forms. It is a wonderful example of how art can connect naturally with mathematics and hands-on learning."

Cora has entered her second year of preschool with confidence! She independently recalled all the rules and routines of the classroom and she is quick to participate in all our songs and movement breaks. Natalie is an avid reader who loves the color Pink, eating Donuts and playing with her sister Margot.

Thiago has been selected as Washington School’s Spotlight Student for his outstanding dedication and hard work! As a student in our ESL program, Thiago spent his summer completing an extensive workbook and reading numerous books provided by his ESL teacher, Mrs. Lochner. He returned to school so excited and proud to share everything he had accomplished! Thiago’s tremendous growth in his English language skills is a true reflection of his effort and determination. We are incredibly proud of him and the wonderful example he sets for his peers. Way to go, Thiago!
Lincoln Middle
Maxine Ramirez
Grade 7
Maxine Ramirez is truly one of LMS’s standout students! A seventh grader at Lincoln Middle School, Maxine is known for her upbeat personality, positive attitude, and ability to bring a smile to those around her. Her enthusiasm and kindness make her a wonderful part of the LMS family.
One of Maxine’s favorite things about LMS is the encouragement she receives from her teachers. She also loves participating in our PBIS rewards system and appreciates being recognized for making positive choices and demonstrating good behavior.
Maxine put her Bear Bucks to great use, cashing them in for gift cards and she is so thoughtful she used some of her rewards to purchase a birthday gift for her younger brother!
During her sixth-grade year, Maxine participated in Drama Club and was proud to be a member of the Enchanted Ensemble in Beauty and the Beast Jr. She is looking forward to another great year at LMS, and for the 2026–2027 school year, she is especially excited about getting to know new people and making new friends.
Maxine reminds us that a positive attitude, kindness, and a willingness to connect with others can make every moment count. We are so proud to have her BE A BEAR at LMS!
