Today, the Manville School District community joins together in solemn remembrance of the lives lost and the heroism displayed on September 11, 2001.

Spotlight on BOE Member: Dorothy Martinez-Garcia

We are excited to highlight one of our newest Manville Board of Education member! Bringing over 15 years of professional experience in education and a passion for our family-driven community, Dorothy Martinez-Garcia is eager to give back to the district.

• Key Goal: Expand home economics, sports, and arts programs to unlock career and scholarship opportunities for students.

• Tackling Attendance: Focused on overcoming student absenteeism by building strong family communication and addressing root causes.

• Fun Fact: Beyond her passion for teaching, she is an avid interior design DIYer who loves taking on home renovation projects.

• Message to Students: "Take advantage of every opportunity given to you. Your community supports you and wants to see you succeed!"

• Warm Welcome: Manville students returned to school greeted by big smiles, bright decorations, and exciting energy.

• Ready to Learn: Classrooms and hallways are officially buzzing as students settle in for a great year ahead.

Parents can now quickly and easily notify the school of:

• Student absences

Through the Notify Office and Pickup Release tools in the Genesis Parent Portal, you can:

• Report absences for today or a future date
• Add notes for multiple days if needed
• Submit early pickup requests (before 12:00 pm)
• Keep track of submitted notes right in the system

Your family can save hundreds of dollars this year on school meals. School meals are offered at no cost to families that qualify. Every year, it’s important to complete the “School Meals and Summer EBT Application” and return it to your school. The application lets your school know if your student is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals and helps your school receive additional funding!

Families that qualify for free school meals can also receive additional benefits such as discounted school fees.

Applying for free school meals is fast, easy, and secure. Obtain a paper application copy at your school or visit your school website to learn more. Lunch Applications are due by September 15th.

This morning at 8:10 AM, our school high school community gathered to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

We were moved by two special musical tributes performed by Ms. Lucchesse and Ms. Espineira, followed by a unified moment of silence to honor the lives lost, the heroes, and all those impacted.

We encourage students and families to walk or bike to school regularly! Each month, school staff and parent volunteers will host a Walking School Bus event (weather permitting). If you are interested in leading a walking group location, please email lweisenbach@manvillesd.org.

The Manville Food Pantry will be open the second Saturday of each month at the Faith in Action Church at 228 S. Main Street. Please make sure to bring your ID and a bag.

Feeding Hands is also offering assistance the fourth Saturday of each month at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 34 South Third Avenue.
