SCC Holds Off Irvine Valley at Home
Santiago Canyon earned a solid home win on February 6, defeating Irvine Valley 76β70 in Orange Empire Conference play. SCC improves to 18-6 overall and 7-3 in the Orange Empire Conference. In the most recent WPI Rankings, SCC is #13 in California and #6 in Southern California. In this game, the Hawks leaned on their depth and defensive energy to control the game, using balanced contributions throughout the lineup to maintain the edge down the stretch.
Jacob De Armas sparked the offense off the bench, pouring in a game-high 23 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting while adding three assists and two steals. Jayden Oei and Paris Lassiter each chipped in 10 points, with Lassiter also making an impact defensively with three steals. Dominic Bolton provided a lift in limited minutes, scoring eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, while Salim Semaan and Ryan Weber combined for 16 rebounds to help Santiago Canyon win the battle on the glass.
After a competitive first half, the Hawks executed on both ends in the closing minutes, getting timely stops and converting at the free throw line to seal the victory. The win continued Santiago Canyonβs strong conference run and capped off a complete team effort in front of the home crowd. SCC will be on the road for 2 games this week. They play at Orange Coast College on Tuesday, February 10th and at Fullerton College on Thursday, February 12th. Both games will tip-off at 5:00pm.
SCC Falls on the Road to Cypress
Santiago Canyon faced a tough road test at Cypress on February 4 and came up short in an 84β64 loss. The Hawks trailed 34β27 at halftime and were unable to close the gap in the second half as Cypress extended its lead with a strong offensive push. Santiago Canyon competed defensively but struggled to find consistent scoring rhythm, shooting 35 percent from the field for the game. Jayden Oei led the Hawks with 18 points off the bench, providing a spark with three three-pointers and steady free throw shooting. Dominic Bolton added 13 points on an efficient night, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. Jacob De Armas chipped in 11 points and was active on both ends, while Paris Lassiter controlled the glass with 11 rebounds. Despite stretches of solid defensive effort and ball movement, Cypress capitalized on second-half opportunities to pull away. Santiago Canyon will look to regroup and build on the positives as conference play continues.
