What's Going On This Month

At Second Home, we prioritize functional, person-centered learning by empowering participants to choose from a wide range of fun and engaging activities! This approach encourages exploration, sparks curiosity, and keeps everyone aligned with their individual goals. From customizing tasks to reflecting on choices and receiving personalized support, we’re committed to making learning both meaningful and enjoyable. This month, we celebrated the arrival of Spring with refreshing community walks and some creative egg painting fun!

Functional Highlight

Fulfilling Orders

This month, Second Home's Work Readiness Skills Program focused on building practical job skills through hands-on experience. Participants practiced fulfilling orders across a variety of simulated job settings, helping them develop attention to detail, time management, and teamwork. These real-world scenarios not only build confidence but also prepare individuals for success in future employment opportunities. We're proud of the progress everyone is making and excited to continue exploring new skills in the coming weeks!

Basic Kitchen Skills

This month at Second Home, our Daily Living Skill focus was on basic kitchen skills! Participants started by learning to identify common kitchen tools and practicing essential safety etiquette. Then, they got hands-on in the kitchen, putting their new knowledge to use by preparing a variety of tasty recipes. It’s been a fun and flavorful way to build confidence and independence!

Community-Based Instruction

A big thank you to Ethan and the Bean for warmly welcoming Second Home during one of our community outings this month! Participants had the opportunity to engage with the staff, learn about different roles within the coffee shop, and enjoy making their own purchases—including some delicious coffee and hot chocolate. It was a meaningful and fun experience, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!
