Year-End Report to the Community Year-End Report to the Community

Superintendent Message

I am very honored and excited to present this Year in Review Report to the Community on the impressive success of our educational programs. Vista Unified students posted powerful academic results on state assessments. Our district was recognized as a top ten performing district in San Diego County. We received state recognition for our work closing the academic achievement gap. Vista Unified received a national award in music and the performing arts. We have expanded our career pathways and partnerships with local and regional businesses. Our facility improvement efforts through the Measure LL Facility Bond made possible by local taxpayers have been recognized as exemplary by multiple agencies including the San Diego Taxpayers Association, S&P Global Rating, independent auditors, and our Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee. We are just a few weeks away from completing the entire school rebuild of Bobier Elementary School.

I would like to commend our teachers and staff for their commitment and tireless efforts to make Vista Unified a destination for high quality education, learning, and achievement. This report highlights authentic examples of the success our school community has enjoyed as a result of daily collaboration, partnerships, focused instruction, and genuine advocacy for all students across all grade spans. Let’s keep building on our success and reaching for a great future for all of our students.

Celebrating our Graduates Celebrating our Graduates

It is so exciting to celebrate the Graduating Class of 2026 on our high school campuses this week. Our graduates serve as the torch bearers for learning, each one eager to transition into their next level of education in college, the trades, the military, or directly into the world of work. The knowledge, skills, and abilities that they have developed while attending Vista Unified schools form the foundation for their future success. Over the course of these past few weeks, hundreds of seniors have received awards for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, on the sports field, on the artistic stage, and in the community. Please join me in congratulating the Class of 2026. Bravo!

As we approach summer, this means our planning for the 2026-27 school year is in high gear. One area where this planning is most evident is in our LCAP development process. The LCAP outlines the Actions and Services that we will provide for students, and the budget allocations necessary to make those happen. We have already met with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) for our required initial review process, and the VUSD School Board will be holding a Public Hearing to complete the final review of the LCAP at the June 10, 2026 Special Board Meeting. This will be the third time that the School Board has had a chance to discuss the LCAP. The School Board will vote on the LCAP at the June 25, 2026 Regular School Board Meeting.

Data Insights Special Edition: The Arts Data Insights Special Edition: The Arts

The Data Insights series from Vista Unified helps our community understand how students are growing and achieving over time. This Special Edition on the Arts builds on that foundation by highlighting arts education in VUSD and our commitment to a whole child approach. Across our district, students are creating, performing, and expressing themselves through the arts every day. We understand that success is not only reflected in what students achieve, but also in how they connect, find their voice, and share their talents. To read the report click the link below:

The City of Vista is inviting community members to help shape the future of arts and culture in Vista by participating in a short community survey. The survey gathers feedback on cultural arts programs, community events, and venues including the Moonlight Amphitheatre, Civic Center Gallery, Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, and AVO Playhouse. Responses are anonymous, take approximately three minutes to complete, and will help guide future programming and community experiences. Participants who provide contact information in the survey will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing for two tickets to the Moonlight. Click Here Arts & Culture survey

CAASPP 2026 Score Reports CAASPP 2026 Score Reports

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 have completed the annual California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The CAASPP assessments help measure student learning and growth in key subjects including English Language Arts, math, and science. These assessments build skills like problem-solving, writing, and critical thinking, and help teachers understand how well students are learning to create effective lessons and provide the right support.

Families may view their individual student score reports in Parent Portal within the Test Scores section under “State Test Scores Reports.” We anticipate that all 2026 CAASPP student score reports will be available by mid June. CAASPP scores are also provided to authorized VUSD educators for local planning purposes in order to monitor student progress and design instruction for the upcoming school year.

Please be aware you will see new reporting labels on your student’s score report. These reporting labels were adopted by California to make the results easier to understand. For full information on the updated reporting labels please view these resources:

New Reporting ALD Flyer: Spanish

Important note: At this point in time, 2026 CAASPP scores are not yet publicly released and no aggregate reports are available. We cannot yet compare scores from year to year until all scores are authenticated and authorized for public release by the state in mid-October. When permitted, we will appropriately share district and school level CAASPP reports for their intended purposes.

To learn more about the CAASPP student score reports and access additional resources for parents, visit the CAASPP Starting Smarter website. More information will be provided on 2026 CAASPP assessment results when we return to school in the fall. Thank you for supporting your student’s academic achievement, and congratulations to all our hard working students on another year of learning and growth.
