VISITING THE MEDIA CENTER

All Students are welcome to come to the Media Center without a pass prior to the start of school, during their assigned lunch , or after school.

Have a book title or author in mind? Let us know and we will try to order it for the Media Center Collection!

If you are having computer issues - please have your teacher write a pass. We are available most hours during the school day except during Voice n Choice.

Students may create an e-hall pass, with their teacher's approval, during regular academic school hours for the class they are currently in - for printing, projects, and checking out materials.

Students may use the Media Center during lunches. Once a student enters, they must sign in and stay. If students leave, they cannot re-enter the Media Center. We do not allow in and out!

National Reading Month

National Reading Month is celebrated in March to honor Dr. Suess’s birthday. In this month people, especially children, read a lot more in celebration and although some people may find the increased emphasis on reading to be boring, the increase in reading during this month has significant benefits that will continue to pay off in the future. Reading is one of the best habits to develop; it strengthens the mental muscles, helps to improve comprehension and analytical abilities, and increases imagination and boosts memory.

March is designated as National Reading Month - a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day. Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age. It's a key component of education and professional development.

Reading Strategies & Tips

  1. Schedule time to read. Reading is an easy thing to put off because there is often no exact due date.
  2. Set yourself up for success. Pick a location that is conducive to reading. (In a corner, under a tree, any quiet place).
  3. Choose and use a specific reading strategy. (Read to a pet, a sibling, a grandparent).
  4. Monitor your comprehension. (Ask yourself questions about what you just read - did you get it? Do you understand what you just read?)
  5. Take notes as you read. (jot notes on a notepad, in a journal).

Crafts & Conversations & For the Love of Books

The Media Center continues to host arts & crafts in the Media Center during Voice & Choice. Check out our new stamps, storyboard materials, card-making accessories, paint and drawing items, and more, available during selected days. If you like to create and be creative, Crafts n Conversation is for you!

Love to read - During Thursday Voice Choice hang out on comfy furniture, explore books and topics, and curl up with a good book for an hour. Lots of new selections available.
