Student Passes and Upcoming Hall Sweeps
Each time students leave class, they are expected to have a pass. Once given permission by their teacher, students are expected to make a pass on Smartpass on their chromebook prior to leaving the room. In order to ensure that students are consistently creating passes, we will begin having Hall Sweeps.
Hall Sweeps will be announced over the loudspeaker. When a hall sweep is announced, students will not be permitted into class. Any student in the hall without a pass will receive detention.
Wellness Center
We are excited to announce the official opening of our new Wellness Center, located in Room 211 which is in the breezeway between the 100 and 200 halls. The Wellness Center is a dedicated space designed to support student stress relief, self-regulation, mindfulness, and emotional reset. Please note that the center's hours of operation will vary each month; for the month of October, the room will be open during Periods 2 and 4 on A days and Periods 1 and 3 on B days. When planning a visit, students should create a pass in SmartPass using the standard procedure just like they would for a bathroom pass. To ensure a tranquil and supportive environment for all visitors, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
Atmosphere & Purpose: Maintain a quiet environment by keeping voices to a whisper and chromebooks stowed away (headphones are required for guided meditation, calming music, or wellness apps). The space is dedicated to stress relief and self-regulation—not socializing or group work.
Expectations & Care: Handle all equipment—including weighted blankets, fidget tools, and furniture—with care. Clean up after yourself by returning items to their designated spots, and note that only water is permitted (no food or open drinks).
Time & Access: Respect the 15 minute time limit so others can use the space, and always remember to check in and out using SmartPass with proper staff permission.
Safety & Community Support: Honor the personal space and privacy of others, and reach out to a wellness staff member immediately if you need counselor support beyond a quick break.

Clinical Corner
Transitioning back to school can be anxiety provoking. A new environment, new responsibilities, and new people can be overwhelming to your child at this time. This can mean more unknowns, which can be scary. However, using some positive affirmations to keep you and your child calm and feeling more confident such as ¨This is hard, and I am getting through it¨ and replacing the famous “what if”, with “even if” such as saying to yourself, “Even if they are mad at me, I can tolerate that feeling and work through it.” Another antidote to anxiety is staying in the moment and focusing on just the task at hand. An example of this would be to say to yourself, ¨Right now I just have to get to my locker,” or "Right now, I just have to make my lunch for tomorrow." This article explains the benefits of mindfulness in more detail. : verywellmind.com

A Message From The AD
ATHLETIC STADIUM RULES:
- ALL Middle and Elementary School level students must be accompanied by a parent throughout the entirety of the game.
- Students are not permitted to stay after school to attend athletic events. As we encourage them to support their friends and classmates, they must go home and come back. They are not permitted to loiter after school unsupervised.
- No backpacks or large bags are permitted into the stadium during athletic events.
- There is NO readmittance at the football games. If you leave the stadium, you WILL NOT be allowed back in.
Turf Field
Thank you to our community to support our state-of-the-art turf field. The field has already been essential to the success of our athletic teams at Northern. This is a massive upgrade for all of us, and we cannot wait to see everyone out there staying active and making memories.
This field is a major investment in our community’s future. To keep it looking pristine and performing at its best for years to come, we need everyone’s help! Protect our field by following the Rules of the Turf:
🚫 No Gum, Seeds, or Food: Shelled snacks (like sunflower seeds) and gum ruin the turf fibers and infill.
🚫 No Sugary Drinks: Water only! Spills attract pests and create sticky, unmanageable patches.
🚫 No Metal Cleats: Please wear molded cleats, turf shoes, or sneakers to avoid tearing the backing.
🚫 No Pets or Vehicles: Keep our furry friends and wheeled items (bikes, scooters) outside the fence.
🗑️ Nothing left behind: Use the trash cans provided and leave the field cleaner than you found it.
Let's work together to protect this incredible asset so our community can enjoy it for a long time to come. Tag your teammates, grab your water bottles, and we'll see you on the field! 🙌⚽🏈
