December Newsletter: Message from Crossroads Administration December Newsletter: Message from Crossroads Administration

Crossroads Parents,

Our November events were all a success! Thank you to our Veterans Day committee, for all the hard work to help our students understand our need to appreciate our Veterans. The celebration was a huge success!

For our annual Thanksgiving Family Luncheon, our cafeteria staff, led by Mrs. Nussbaumer, served over 1100 meals. Our office staff checked in 664 visitors. What a wonderful day for our families to come eat lunch with their child!

I’d like to send a shout-out to our amazing House and Family Leaders for providing service and hard work. They helped out at each of the events. Their hard work didn’t go unnoticed. They received many positive compliments. Thank you for serving at each of these events!

I am so thankful for the crew we have here at Crossroads. Thank you, students! Thank you, parents! Thank you, staff! Thank you, PTA! Thank you, community!

Thank you! Have a great December!

Habit 4 -

Think Win-Win

Everyone Can Win: I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.

  • Read The Rainbow Fish: Read or watch the story of The Rainbow Fish together and discuss how the fish learned that sharing leads to a happier and "win-win" outcome for everyone.

  • Create a family "win-win" journal: Start a journal to write down and reflect on the "win-win" solutions you find for family conflicts.

  • Brainstorm conflict resolutions: Pick a recurring conflict (like chores or homework) and work together to create a "win-win" solution. Write it down and remind each other of it when the conflict comes up again

  • Play games together: Play a game with a clear winner, but discuss that while competition is good for the game, it's not always the best approach in a family. Talk about how a "win-win" solution is a better mindset for relationships

  • Make a “wish poster”. Start by drawing a line down the middle. On one side, cut and paste magazine pictures of things you want (like an ant farm). On the other side, cut and paste pictures of things your mom or dad want (like a clean room). Together, look at your “wish poster”. See how you can work with each other to make both your wishes and your parents’ wishes come true.

Message From Nurse Teresa Message From Nurse Teresa

Hi, everyone! Cold and flu season is upon us….Just a friendly reminder to encourage your kids to practice these important health habits to keep themselves and everyone at school healthy:

-Good handwashing!

-Covering a cough/sneeze with the inside of your elbow

-Stay home if sick (see notes below)

-Drink lots of water

-Get plenty of rest

-Eat healthy foods

Vision and Hearing Screenings

We’ve finished up hearing screenings for this year. If your student did not pass the screening, a hearing referral letter was sent home with your student. Please return the form to me, completed by the doctor, if you take your student for further examination. If you are in need of assistance or resources in order to obtain aid for your student, please contact me.

CRE is a Heart Safe School!

In 2023, CRE was first designated as a “Heart Safe” school in conjunction with Project ADAM. Project ADAM’s goal is to improve outcomes for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victims by ensuring that help arrives and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) gets to the person and is used ASAP. The goal for shocking a victim in SCA is 3 minutes. We recently performed a drill with our school’s Heart Team, and the “victim” was shocked within 1.5 minutes! By next year, every school in the district is expected to have a CERP (Cardiac Event Response Plan) in place for this reason. CRE is ahead of the curve and has been recertified this year. So proud of our Cardiac Event Response Team (CERT)!

Illness Reminders

If your student is sick, please keep him/her home to avoid the spread of germs. If your student has a fever (100 F or above), vomiting, or diarrhea, he/she should stay home until fever-free and symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Wentzville School District Updates Wentzville School District Updates

Wentzville Wow Factor Award

We are feeling extra thankful for amazing staff this month! Has your child's teacher made a significant impact? Do you want to recognize a staff member who goes above and beyond? Celebrate a teacher or employee with a Wentzville Wow Factor Award anytime throughout the school year to let them know they are making a difference! Nominate a Staff Member.

WSD Grading Practices

In case you missed it, first quarter grades are available to view in Focus, and the WSD is using Standards-Based Grading to help teachers—and families—see exactly what your child has learned and where they might need more support. Learn more about Standards-Based Grading and what you might see on your child's report card.

WSD Holiday Assistance Program

Would you like to bring a little holiday cheer to a WSD family? Each year in December the WSD Holiday Assistance Program helps to provide gifts for students in need and their families. Last year 361 families and 982 children received assistance in this charitable effort! The program works with businesses, community groups, and individuals to help make the upcoming holidays more enjoyable for struggling families. In our schools, students and staff do a variety of things to raise money and collect gifts, and many families are adopted by their own caring school community. But there is always a need for additional community support.

If you would like to adopt a family, please contact (636) 327-3800 x20358 or zacharybreckle@wsdr4.org.

Inclement weather & AMI Update

As we approach the colder months, we want to re-share the District communication that has information regarding the WSD's inclement weather procedures for the 2025-26 school year. This year, snow days one and two will be traditional snow days. After our second snow day this year, we will switch to AMI (alternative methods of instruction) for snow days three through seven. Read more on what to expect this winter or view AMI assignments.

Become a School Lunch Hero

Our School Lunch Hero program aims to ensure no child leaves the cafeteria hungry. Donate to our Lunch Hero program to help WSD families struggling to keep up with paying for school breakfast and lunch. Read more about School Lunch Heroes and make a donation.

Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully

All car riders and daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.

Important: Parents are no longer allowed to walk up to pick up their children. Please use the car pick-up line.

Bright blue car tags will be distributed at Meet-the-Teacher Night. If you are unable to attend, tags will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Please check with the office if you need a car tag. USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT.

When driving through the car lanes, please display the bright blue car tag on your dashboard where names can be easily seen. If you do not have a car tag, staff will need to check your ID, contact the office for clearance, and then call your child. This process slows down pick-up for everyone.

A few additional reminders:

  • Dismissal changes will not be accepted after 3:00 p.m.

  • Student safety is our top priority. Because 3:20 p.m. is a busy time, we cannot allow office checkouts after 3:20 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

  • If your child is a walker but will become a car rider due to inclement weather, you are responsible for notifying the school. We no longer send text messages about rainy-day dismissals.

Please review the arrival and dismissal maps.
