A Message from our Instructional Coach, Mrs. Gauthier A Message from our Instructional Coach, Mrs. Gauthier

It has been a busy last couple of weeks for the students and staff here at Hawks View. Our third and fourth grade students have been hard at work completing the English Language Arts State Assessment. For an hour each day students participated in either a computer adapted test that measures reading and listening comprehension or worked on a written performance task by using multiple sources to write informational or opinion pieces about provided topics. Our students showed an outstanding ability to stay focused, persevere, and showed that they can do hard things! Hawks View is so proud of all of our testers.

This past week Hawks View hosted a learning walk in the building. These learning walks are an opportunity for the district office teaching and learning team, as well as our teachers at Hawks View, to move throughout the building watching student learning in classrooms and small groups. Learning walks have been taking place all year and this past week we were able to visit some of our first and second grade reading and math small groups. We also visited third and fifth grade literacy. It was exciting to see the high levels of student engagement. What an incredible way for our staff to celebrate the hard work of our students and all the staff that supports learning in the building!

Get ready to hula into fun at our Luau-Themed Spring Carnival tomorrow from 4:30 to 7:30 PM! Join us for a tropical evening packed with island-inspired games, festive activities, and delicious food. Our events thrive thanks to the amazing support of our community. Mahalo in advance, and we can’t wait to see you there in your best luau gear! Please note that this is not a drop off event. Our carnival gets very crowded and it's important that students have an adult with them.

PE Update - April 25, 2025 PE Update - April 25, 2025

We have officially wrapped up our inaugural bicycle unit here at Hawks View, and wow, what a success it was! This unit not only resulted in almost 100 students learning to ride a bike, but also helped strengthen the connection between our PE team and the community by encouraging parent involvement and engagement through shared activities and support. Parents participated by helping with bike safety checks, taking their kids for bike rides, and volunteering during events, which created opportunities for meaningful interaction. The unit promoted healthy habits and outdoor activity, while fostering a sense of collaboration and community spirit between families and the school. It was so cool seeing such a wide variety of kids overcoming their fears, bouncing back from falls, continuing to work and eventually persevering! We were able to have some great β€˜life’ conversations with kids about overcoming fears, pushing through adversity and doing hard things! Thanks again to all of our volunteers, and for supporting your child’s learning at home! We are already looking forward to this unit next year!

Parent Input for Student Placement Parent Input for Student Placement

Each Spring, we give parents an opportunity for input regarding their child’s placement for the next school year. This is not a place to request teachers, as teacher assignments aren’t finalized at this point. As your child’s caregiver, you provide valuable information and insight and we’ll take your thoughts into consideration. We do our best to create balanced classes and cannot accommodate every request that is asked of us. With about 500 students, you can imagine placement is a very long, thoughtful process. The input form will be available until May 11th.

Conferences Conferences

On May 8th and 9th, we will be hosting spring conferences at Hawks View. These days will be no school days for our students. All families will have the opportunity to sign up for a time to meet with their child's teacher. Sign-ups will be coming home via ParentSquare between 2:30-3:30 tomorrow (Friday, April 25th), so please be watching for those. Also, please pay special attention to the conference format, as some grade levels host student led conferences and some host parent-teacher conferences.

These days are set aside for the sole purpose of conferencing with families. If you need to miss due to a family trip or other reasons, teachers are not required to make up conferences at another time. If there are work samples or other artifacts that can be sent home, teachers will do so.

During conference days, our Book Fair will be open in the library for families to book shop! Additionally, our Lost and Found items will be near the library/front office. We have accumulated quite a few items over the last few months, so please come look for any missing items! All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year.

Deadline to Submit Volunteer Background Checks Deadline to Submit Volunteer Background Checks

Every volunteer must have a criminal background check completed each school year. Background checks can take 7-10 business days to process, so please plan ahead. The deadline for submitting a background check for this school year is June 4th. We must have your clearance back before you can volunteer. Call the office at 503-825-5400 if you have any questions, or to check on your clearance.

If you are a little nervous about moving on to middle school, this is the class for you. Together we will erase fears regarding lockers, transitioning between classes, organization and the new responsibilities that come with being a new middle schooler. You will have the opportunity to meet classmates from other elementary schools, tour the campus, and get a sneak peek at Outdoor School. We will have a great time and are excited to have you join us! This 4-day class is for incoming 6th graders only.
