Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Our Music Classes?
Highlights from Mr. Wagner and Mr. Quarles
Scott Middle School students have been working diligently preparing for the winter concerts, continuing to raise the bar for what it means to be a Scott Musician. Our ensemble students are not only mastering their primary instruments, but also challenging themselves to take on a secondary instrument and even joining the chorus, expanding their musical skills in ways they may never have imagined. Many students are going above and beyond by learning to compose their own music and learning the fundamentals of conducting, gaining experiences typically reserved for high school or college!
General music students are building a strong foundation in reading, composing, responding to, and analyzing music. They're applying this knowledge through hands-on experience with a wide range of instruments and learning proper instrument care - skills that empower lifelong musicianship. Most importantly, students are discovering new interests and passions they may never have encountered without the opportunities provided in our music program.
Mr. Wagner and Mr. Quarles would like to extend their sincere gratitude for your support in the music program as we continue to grow and push the boundaries of what is possible!
Welcome Ms. Ryan!
Ms. Ryan, our 8th grade Special Education teacher joined our Scott team last week. She spent the week working with teachers, reviewing expectations, and meeting students.
Ms. Ryan has worked in special education for over 20 years, and is certified K–12 with a master's in educational leadership from Immaculata University. She has lived in the area for the last 15 years after moving here from New Jersey to be closer to family.
Outside of school, Ms. Ryan has four grown kids, one adorable granddaughter, and a house full of pets. She loves to grow food and flowers in the summer and be cozy indoors in the winter. Ms. Ryan is really looking forward to getting to know everyone and being part of the Scott Middle School community!
6th Grade Winter Concert Was A Success!
Congratulations to our Sixth Grade musicians and Mr. Wagner on a wonderful night of music. Students, staff, families and friends gathered in the auditorium last Wednesday night to hear performances from the orchestra, chorus and band. The students did a great job and everyone was proud of the growth they have shown since elementary school. We are very proud of all of our musicians and looking forward to a great Spring Concert as well. Well done!

Encouraging college and career planning involves providing resources, breaking down the process into manageable steps, and engaging students in exploring their future options.
Planning for college and career is crucial for students as it helps them set goals, understand their options, and make informed decisions about their futures. Early planning can lead to better educational and career outcomes, ensuring that students are prepared for the challenges ahead.
Steps to Encourage Planning:
1. Break down the process
2. Utilize resources
3. Engage students
4. Create checklists
5. Involve Parents & guardians

Other Ways to Get Internet Services
With our first Flexible Instruction Day at the beginning of the month, we were made aware of some difficulty with Internet Services. Thank you, Ms. Gallagher, for doing some research and putting this list together!
Hotspots:
You could use the hotspot on many cell phones to connect your Chromebook to the internet. Not all phone plans have hotspots, but many do.
Here's a quick video tutorial for families to use to connect the phones hotspot to their Chromebook.
You can rent a hotspot from the library for 3-7 days

Free WIFI spots in the community:
McDonalds offers free Wifi, along with many other stores including Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Arby’s, Target, Starbucks, Chick-Fil A and Panera.
Wegmans has a café with free Wifi , tables and outlets to plug in your devices. Some Giant supermarkets do as well.
Coatesville Public library (or any local library) has free wifi. You can also use their computers if you have a library card.
Coatesville (formerly Brandywine) YMCA-has a lounge to the left of the entrance. They would probably let you use their lounge to complete schoolwork even if you explain that you don’t have a YMCA card. They may ask for ID, so bring that with you in case.
The Courtyard by Marriott in Coatesville would probably also let you sit in their lobby and use their wi-fi. Their address is: 600 Manor Rd, Coatesville (610) 384-7401

Additional Reminder from Nurse Ritter About Sick Students
I hope you are doing well. I would like to share an important reminder about our school’s procedure when students feel sick during the school day.
Recently, we have noticed an increase in students texting or calling their parents directly to go home due to illness. Please remind your child that they must come to the School Nurse first if they are not feeling well. I will assess their symptoms and determine whether they need to rest, return to class, or be sent home.
For safety and accountability, parents should not come to pick up a student unless you receive a call from the Nurse’s Office. This ensures that every student is properly evaluated and that we are aware of who is leaving the building at all times.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and organized process for student health and wellness. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
