Wiggin Street Parent Update

This morning, we recognized Patriot's Day. Since 2009, the United States has observed September 11th as "Patriot Day" and a "National Day of Service and Rememberence" to honor, reflect, and mourn the lives lost in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. This year, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. This day also serves as a reminder for the appreciation for the people who work hard to keep us safe and protect our freedome every day.

Our 2nd graders traveled to the Knox Memorial Theater to see The Wizard of Oz: Part 1. Next Friday, our 3rd graders will have the opportunity to enjoy the performance as well.

Next week is MVHS Homecoming Spirit Week, and we are excited to celebrate right along with them with our own Wiggin Street Spirit Week! Be sure to check out the schedule below so your child knows what to wear each day.

We will wrap up the week with one of our favorite annual traditions—a MVHS Homecoming Pep Rally on our playground! MVHS band members, cheerleaders, members of the Homecoming Court, and fall athletes will join us to help build school spirit. Our Wiggin Street Kids always look forward to this special event!

Students have also continued working hard on their beginning-of-the-year assessments this week, giving them the opportunity to show what they know. We are very proud of their focus, effort, and perseverance!

Finally, don’t forget that the Mumkin Sale ends Tuesday, September 15th. Thank you for your continued support of Wiggin Street!

🎭 Wiggin Street Kids Take the Stage! 🌈✨

Our 2nd Grade students traveled to the Knox Memorial Theater today for the YES Concert, where they enjoyed The Wizard of Oz: Part 1!

It was especially exciting to see several of our very own Wiggin Street Kids performing in the production! Congratulations to:

We were also proud to see some familiar faces among the cast! Wiggin Street alumni Jane Camillus, Mary Jo Camillus, and Andrew Petersen were also part of the production.

What a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience live theater and cheer on members of our Wiggin Street community! 💛

All units will be delivered on Thursday, 9/24 at 1:00pm. We are asking for parent help with unloading/organizing all orders. Delivery and organizing will take place on the playground. We appreciate any and all help with this! Please use the signup link below to sign up for a shift.

Interested in being more involved with our school? First Grade parents can sign up to provide snacks for teachers in October. Also, we would love to have you join us for the next PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 6th, at 5:00 in the school library. Hope to see you then!

Students just finished working on their superhero themed artwork that will be on display in the school. We are now starting to work on their project for the Art to Remember fundraiser (more information to come soon!) Next up we will be working on the Yearbook Art contest. While you will not see many projects coming home at the beginning of the school year we are still busy creating!

We require that all adults attending field trips will need a BCI background check on file. The board will pay for any parent's background check done through the MVCSD district office to go on field trips or to volunteer at the school. The BCI background check will need to be done every 3 years and needs to be on file in our office. If any parent needs a background check, please go to the district office with your driver's license. Thank you.

As a district we are 1:1 on Chromebooks, and students in grades 1-5 receive a touchscreen Chromebook to be used in class. K students regularly use iPads and/or Chromebooks that are assigned to students and kept in the classroom.

The MVCSD Student Electronic Device Handbook can also be found on the district website, but I've linked it here for convenience. Please read carefully to understand that "a Student Electronic Device or any of its accessories that are lost (whereabouts unknown) or damaged is the responsibility of the student and parent involved in the loss of property.

There is an option to purchase insurance on devices kept at school, and more information can be found here: OPT IN Student Electronic Device Insurance Flyer (These will be sent home at the start of the school year.) The cost is $39 per device (K-12). Accidents happen, so I highly encourage the purchase of insurance to save you from paying for the cost of a replacement screen or Chromebook with a replacement cost of $368-$455.

Acceptable Usage Policy

The Kenyon College Volleyball Team has planned a Wiggin Street Game on October 7th at 6pm, a home game in which students from Wiggin Street are invited to attend! They will have activities and a chance to walk with a KCVB volleyball player before the game. To get a chance to walk with a player, parents will be encouraged to donate $5, and all of the proceeds will go back to Wiggin Street.
