Conejo Academy is proud to be a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. Leader in Me is a schoolwide leadership model that helps students develop the skills, habits, and mindset they need to become happy, confident, responsible, and successful leaders.

Leader in Me is based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and the children’s book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. The habits teach students that leadership is not about being “the boss.” It is about making good choices, taking responsibility, setting goals, building positive relationships, and recognizing the leadership potential in themselves and others.

Throughout the school year, we focus on a different habit each month, giving students the opportunity to learn, practice, and apply each habit at school and at home.

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids

1. Be Proactive – “You’re in Charge!”
   Make good choices and take responsibility for your actions.
2. Begin With the End in Mind – “Have a Plan!”
   Set goals and think about what you want to accomplish.
3. Put First Things First – “Work First, Then Play!”
   Prioritize what is important and manage your time.
4. Think Win-Win – “Everyone Can Win!”
   Look for solutions that are fair and benefit everyone.
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood – “Listen Before You Talk!”
   Listen carefully and try to understand others’ perspectives.
6. Synergize – “Together Is Better!”
   Celebrate differences and work together to accomplish more.
7. Sharpen the Saw – “Balance Feels Best!”
   Take care of your body, mind, heart, and spirit so you can be your best.

The 8th Habit: Find Your Voice

As students grow, we also introduce The 8th Habit: Find Your Voice. Students learn to discover their unique strengths, talents, and passions and use their voice to make a positive difference in the world.

At Conejo Academy, these habits are part of our everyday school culture. Our goal is to help every child recognize that they are a leader and give them the tools to lead themselves, work effectively with others, and make a positive difference in their school and community.

Conejo Academy se enorgullece de ser una Escuela Lighthouse de Líder en Mí. Líder en Mí es un modelo de liderazgo a nivel escolar que ayuda a los estudiantes a desarrollar las habilidades, los hábitos y la mentalidad que necesitan para convertirse en líderes felices, seguros de sí mismos, responsables y exitosos.

Líder en Mí se basa en Los 7 Hábitos de las Personas Altamente Efectivas y en el libro infantil Los 7 Hábitos de los Niños Felices. Los hábitos enseñan a los estudiantes que el liderazgo no significa ser “el jefe”. Significa tomar buenas decisiones, asumir responsabilidad, establecer metas, desarrollar relaciones positivas y reconocer el potencial de liderazgo en uno mismo y en los demás.

Durante el año escolar, nos enfocamos en un hábito diferente cada mes, brindando a los estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender, practicar y aplicar cada hábito tanto en la escuela como en casa.

Los 7 Hábitos de los Niños Felices

En Conejo Academy, estos hábitos forman parte de nuestra cultura escolar cotidiana. Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a cada niño a reconocer que es un líder y brindarle las herramientas para liderarse a sí mismo, trabajar eficazmente con los demás y generar un impacto positivo en su escuela y comunidad.

Back-to-School Night is an important opportunity for every family to connect with their child’s teacher and learn how to support their child’s success this school year.

We strongly encourage every family to attend on August 26 because this evening gives you the opportunity to:

• Meet your child’s teacher and begin building a strong partnership.
• Learn about classroom routines, expectations, and learning goals.
• Understand what your child will be learning and how you can support them at home.
• Learn important classroom and school procedures.
• Ask questions and learn how to communicate effectively with your child’s teacher.
• Become more connected to your child’s school experience.
• Show your child that their education matters to your family.

• Beginning Monday, August 24, all students must be dropped off at the entrance to campus. To help ensure the safety and security of our students, families will not be permitted to enter campus during morning drop-off.

• Staff members and student leaders will be available to welcome and support our younger students as they make their way to their classrooms.
• Families who need to enter campus for a scheduled meeting, volunteer opportunity, or other pre-arranged school business must enter through the main office and be cleared by office staff before entering campus.
• Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and secure campus for everyone!

Conejo Academy is seeking parents/guardians who are interested in serving on our School Site Council (SSC). The SSC is a group of parents, staff, and school leaders who work together to review school data, provide input, and help guide important decisions about our school’s goals, programs, and use of certain school funds.

Parent representatives bring an important family voice to the decision-making process. Members attend monthly SSC meetings, share perspectives and ideas, and help ensure that our school plans reflect the needs of our students and families.

Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 1, at 3:00 PM. One of our first tasks will be to review and approve Conejo Academy’s 2026–2027 School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

If you are interested in serving as a parent representative, please contact Ms. Ultreras, eultreras@conejousd.org , by Friday, August 28. We would love to have your voice and perspective represented on our School Site Council!

Conejo Academy está buscando padres, madres o tutores interesados en formar parte de nuestro Consejo Escolar (SSC). El SSC es un grupo de padres, personal y líderes escolares que trabajan juntos para revisar los datos de la escuela, brindar sus opiniones y ayudar a tomar decisiones importantes sobre las metas, los programas y el uso de ciertos fondos escolares.

Los representantes de padres aportan una importante voz familiar al proceso de toma de decisiones. To help increase student safety during arrival and dismissal, we are making an important change to our traffic routine. All student drop-off and pick-up will now take place at the front of the school using one designated entrance and exit. The Los Feliz entrance will be closed.

We understand that a new routine may take a little time to adjust to. Staff will be stationed outside to help guide families, answer questions, and support a smooth and efficient drop-off and dismissal process. Our goal is to keep traffic moving while creating a safer, more organized experience for all students and families.

Para ayudar a aumentar la seguridad de los estudiantes durante la llegada y la salida, estamos haciendo un cambio importante en nuestra rutina de tráfico. Todos los momentos para dejar y recoger a los estudiantes ahora se llevarán a cabo en la entrada principal de la escuela, utilizando una sola entrada y salida designada. CRPD is excited to offer several after-school enrichment opportunities for Conejo Academy students in grades 1–5, including Watercolor, Soccer Kidz, and Chorus. Programs begin in September and are held right after school.

Registration is now open through CRPD. Scan the QR code or visit the CRPD registration website and use the keyword “Conejo Academy.” Spaces may be limited, so be sure to register early!
