Super Message

May is National Teacher Appreciation Month. In WCSU, we’ve always extended the definition of “teacher” to all staff who work with kids in our schools. Our school staffs work tirelessly to ensure that every student is not just taught, but fed, transported, and cared for emotionally, socially, medically and intellectually. We have dedicated administrators, teachers, office staff, classroom support professionals, AST, special education teachers, counselors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language therapists and their assistants, custodians, bus drivers, food service workers and a variety of other humans who devote their lives to the education of our students. And for this, we are eternally grateful. So, take the time, this month (and every month really!) to express your gratitude to these great people. They will certainly appreciate your kindness and support!

Mental Health Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial time to emphasize the importance of our children's emotional and psychological well-being. Just like their physical health, their mental health is vital for their overall success and happiness.

We understand that navigating your child's mental health can sometimes feel challenging. To support you, we want to share some valuable resources available:

  • The school counselor's office: Our school counselors are a great first point of contact for concerns and can offer guidance and support.
  • The Vermont Department of Mental Health: They offer a range of resources and information for children and families: https://mentalhealth.vermont.gov/.
  • Mental Health America: This national organization is dedicated to the promotion of mental health, well-being, and condition prevention: https://mhanational.org/resources/time-to-talk-tips-for-talking-about-your-mental-health/.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): NAMI offers support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by mental illness: https://www.nami.org/Get-Involved/NAMI-FaithNet/Tips-For-How-to-Help-a-Person-with-Mental-Illness/.

In honor of a Administrative Professional's Days, we want to take a moment to shine a bright spotlight on the incredible individuals who keep our school running smoothly: our dedicated Administrative Assistants! Often the first friendly face you see when you walk through our doors and the helpful voice on the other end of the phone, they are truly the heart and soul of schools.

Our Administrative Assistants wear many hats. They are the organizers who manage countless schedules, the communicators who relay important information, the problem-solvers who navigate daily challenges with grace, and the caring individuals who offer a comforting word or a helping hand to students, parents, and staff alike.

Their dedication and hard work often go unseen, but their contributions are absolutely vital to the success of our school and the well-being of our students. They are the glue that holds many things together, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment.

Thank you to our wonderful Administrative Assistants – we appreciate you more than words can say!

Celebrating Ryan Kelly: A True Rebel Spirit

At Leland & Gray, school spirit is a way of life. And no one embodies that spirit more than Ryan Kelly. Through her tireless energy, deep commitment to students, and love for building community, Ryan makes our school not just a place of learning, but a place of connection, tradition, and joy.

Whether she’s teaming up with Beth Wells to lead the charge on Spirit Week — organizing games, skits, and competitions — or rallying the school community at Rocktoberfest with a bonfire, music, food, and dancing, Ryan’s enthusiasm is infectious. Her dedication to making these events happen year after year reflects her belief that students thrive when they feel part of something bigger than themselves.

Ryan is also a dedicated team manager, guiding our student-athletes on the soccer field in the fall and the softball diamond in the spring. She brings out the best in others by pushing them, supporting them, and celebrating every step of progress.

In the classroom, Ryan is also a leader in instruction. She has taken on the challenge of implementing the new EL curriculum with passion and precision, always focused on creating meaningful and engaging learning experiences for her students. She is also seen as a leader in the middle school, always ready to support others.

Ryan Kelly is more than a teacher or coach — she is a cornerstone of the Leland & Gray community. Her spirit, drive, and dedication make our school stronger, healthier, and more united. Thank you, Ryan, for being the heartbeat of the Rebel spirit!
