🏫 What’s Happening at School
A note from the Principal...
Dear Abraham Lincoln Families,
What a wonderful evening celebrating learning! It was so great to see so many families attend the Academic Showcase last night. I hope you left feeling proud of all the hard work and accomplishments our students have achieved so far this year.
If you have any questions about your child’s learning or the work you saw on display, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
While warmer weather is on the way, mornings are still quite chilly. Please be sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately so they are comfortable during outdoor play.
~ Mrs. Ireland
Attendance Matters!
At Abraham Lincoln, we take attendance seriously because consistent school attendance is directly linked to student success. We track attendance weekly and will begin sharing our monthly progress with students and staff through a visual display in the school. I will also include these updates in each newsletter so families can stay informed.
Here is our Average Daily Attendance (ADA) so far this year:
-
September: 95%
-
October: 92%
-
November: 95%
December: 95%
January: 94%
February: 91%
Our goal is to maintain 95% or higher each month, and we are excited to work together to reach it!
You can help support strong attendance by scheduling appointments outside the school day whenever possible and planning family vacations during scheduled school vacation weeks. Every day of learning matters, and we appreciate your partnership in helping our students be present, engaged, and ready to learn.
Book Room Volunteer Needed
We are looking for a volunteer to come in once a week for about an hour to help shelve books in our Book Room. If you are interested, please contact Meghan Schall at mschall@bangorschools.net.

đź’ˇ Helpful Tips & Resources for Families
National Reading Month
Reading Picnic: Have a family reading picnic by spreading out a blanket in the living room or outside, bringing a few favorite books, and enjoying a snack while reading together. Taking turns reading aloud or sharing favorite parts of a story makes reading even more fun.
Act Out a Favorite Story: After reading a book together, have your child act out the story using stuffed animals, toys, or simple costumes. Retelling stories helps children practice sequencing events and strengthens understanding of what they read.
Letter or Word Hunt: Look for letters and words around the house on items like cereal boxes, signs, mail, and book covers. Younger children can hunt for specific letters, while older children can look for sight words or words that rhyme.
Create a Cozy Reading Spot: Encourage your child to make a special reading space using pillows, blankets, or a small “reading fort.” A comfortable and fun reading environment can motivate children to spend more time with books.
Smart Social
The Bangor School Department is partnering with Smart Social, an excellent resource that helps families navigate the digital world safely and confidently. Smart Social offers free tools, videos, and tips to help parents guide children in making positive choices online and using social media responsibly.
We encourage all families to explore these resources and start conversations at home about digital safety and balance. Check it out here: Smart Social

đź’– At the Heart of Abe
Every day at Abe, our goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where students feel encouraged to try new things, ask questions, and take pride in their accomplishments. Whether students are working through a challenging problem, reading a new book, or collaborating with classmates, these moments help build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Thank you for the many ways you support your children and our school community. Your encouragement and involvement make a meaningful difference in the success of our students.
